Who are some people that you admire/like that you may not agree with politically?
I'll name one of mine:
Niccolo Machiavelli
Mythotic Kelkia

Ernesto Rafael "Che" Guevara
Alien Born

Fidel Castro, because even though I do not like his political, communist ideas, I admire the fact that he dared stand up against the Amerikans, like very few people in smaller, weak countries have (And after all, he's one of the few that "survived" them)

And to think that most of the hostility was due to a misunderstanding!

Yeah, I'm in favor of a worldwide minimum wage that is also a living wage, national healthcare system, decriminalizing drugs, progressive income tax, banning political contributions and letting government regulate business among other "leftie" ideas. I just happen to be pro-defense, and in favor of spreading western culture and values to less developed parts of the world, which makes me seem conservative to some.

John Paul the II.

Great, Great man, but his anti-sex anti abortion anti-birth control politics just don't quite work for me.

Colin Powell

Seems like an intelligent, good man, and probably the republican who I have the most respect for. I don't like his republican policies, but as a person he'd probalbly get my vote.

Chirac

I'd vote socialist in a French election, but I admire his strong Pro-Europe stance and his balls to oppose the US in Iraq. Plus he has a certain distinction about him that I respect.

Ernie Eves, former Premier of Ontario. Progressive Conservative. Hated a lot of his economic policies, but he is socialy very ponminded, speaking out in open support of the same-sex marriage bill early on.He's also surprisingly candid for a politican, plus he wears great suits.

I have a grudging amount of respect for G.W. Bush, but only because he's doing whatever he can to re-open the US Border to Canadian Beef.

Apparently in America, inbred hicks are allowed to vote on national issues in a election with maybe 50,000 voters, completely ignoring the Feds and any laws they pass.

On NS: Whispering Legs regularily says stuff that pisses me off, but does it with style and some scruples, so its all good.

Etrusca: Don't like some his views on somethings..always politics, fortunately not in predictable Left/Right Wing fashion.

He's old (over 60 is old for me...cuz I'm only 31) which makes me much more inclined to pay attention to what he says. Anyone who managed to live through a war and has made it past 60 is bound to have some really interesting expereinces and ideas.

His views are much too conservative and I don't share his opinion that Christianity is supirioir to everything, but nevertheless he is most intelligent and a peaceful man.

Dead Commies (in all his incarnations): He gets my sarcasm, and aside from a rough start (CHOKE ON THAT SANDWICH!), I like his style...I don't completely disagree with him all the time, but enough to keep things interesting.

Jocabia/Dempublicents: I name them together, because they are often joined at the hip...and their discussions are always entertaining, even when I don't really agree with either of them!

The Cat Tribe: we mostly see eye to eye...but not always, and then the claws come out...

Alien Born: he always makes me defend my position, and as annoying as that can be sometimes, it at least forces me to be clear...

I am going to get flamed for this but Hitler.
Yes Hitler
If he was not a Nazi, and a Jew killing racist, he would have been the most respectable politician that ever lived. I do not support his views or any racist/Nazi views, but Hitler was an awesome chancellor and politician.
He took Germany from after the Treaty of Versai (Sp?) to a power that could hold off three quarters of Europe for 6-7 years, convinced a nation to attempt genocide, kicked the crap out of a lot of Europe for the length of the war, and won Time's man of the year in the 1930's.
The thing to remember is that after WWI, Germany was only allowed
An 100,000(?) man army
No airforce
No navy
No tanks
No cannons greater than aproximately 6~8 inches?
and in the Depression built this up to the point of holding off most of Europe.

Others include
Osama Bin Laden and Al Quada (Hate the bastards, but they are very good)
Mark Latham (Australian Politician, good potential but his party screwed him)
Castro (Resisting America so long)
Marin Luther King and Malcolm X (Disagreed with somethings, but important)
