I was thinking about this election, and I was wondering, would anyone want to start a centrist party. It seems to me that the parties closest to the center on most issues have the wierdest ideas. I drew up a short proposed party charter, but I feel that this can be a place for other centrists to congregate and gather strength for the next election (whenever that is). I think this really the best time to do it, as the election provides us with a lot of exposure.
Centrist Party Charter
The Centrist party shall be composed of 18 party delegates (I haven't really finalized exactly how these will be selected; maybe the best way would be by lot). To ensure compromise and unity, a two-thirds majority will be required for all resolutions to pass. The Party will pass resolutions selecting a party leader (or leaders), selecting represenatives in parliament (or voting them out as the case may be), and passing various issues to the party platform. This will envolve a lot of back-scratching and quid-pro-quo, which will be the name of the game.
Of course everyone has a different idea of what centrists are and what the "centre" is. That's the beauty of the centrist party. It is what you make it. We focus on compromise, practicality, and unity, but separate ideologies will also be important.
