I'll have to go with five. The most drama, alot of action and of course, the most memorable moment in the history of movies... "Obi-Wan never told you what happened to your father..."

Okay, I like Episode II for Yoda's awesome scene, Episode III 'cuz Padme's so damn cute even pregnant, but Episode VI the most 'cuz I love the title. And isn't Yoda in that one a lot? Which one's the one in Jabba's palace? Leia was CUTE in her slave outfit. I have to say I'd rather see Padme wearin' it, though.

Whoa, I'm a total geek. :D

The original, and by original, I mean the original original, not the one with the Jabba scene added in, along with all the other extra crap to "make it better." Fuck you, Lucas--you did it right the first time. Here's why.

Of all the films, it's the only one that was meant as a stand-alone. Empire, great as it is (and it is in some ways superior to Star Wars), is not a stand alone film--you have to know the story from the original to get it all, and you have to watch Jedi to get the real conclusion. But not so in Star Wars (and I refuse to call it "A New Hope," too--it's Star Wars and everything else is an add on). Star Wars is a complete story arc, complete with the good vs. evil and good winning in the end, with the wise-cracking anti-hero who comes back and redeems himself, with the coming of age story, you name it--it's all there. And there's a reason for that.

Lucas may have had this grand vision in mind when he started making Star Wars, but he had no idea if he'd ever get to make the others. He had a hard enough time getting the first one made, so he had to put his all into that one film, and he got it right, with a little help from some ghost writers who punched up his dialogue (could have used them for the last four films). Thst's why Star Wars is the best of the six, hands down.

I think this is best explained divided into categories:

For freakin' awesome visual effects, Episode III and II are tied.
For freakin' awesomeness period, Episode V and III are tied.
For good acting, Episodes IV through VI are tied.
For best Scifi creatures, Episode VI wins hands down (GO EWOKS!!!)

But, if I had to choose a favorite, it would be Episode III, for the most cool Lightsaber vs Lightsaber(s) scenes and the coolest space battle. There's probably other stuff, but I can't think of it right now seeing as my brain just woke up.

IMO Episode V is the best. It is dark and serious, and it has great (for 1980) special effects and magnificent battle scenes.
