Surely Darth Vader. I don't think that there's much competition.

Who was the poster-child for lobotomy who voted for Jabba the Hutt?
Grand Moff Tarkin all the way! Think about it - he's human, and doesn't have the force, yet still has enough power to order Vader around.

Aesthetically Darth Maul

it cant be darth vader because while he was evil he wussed out and went all good at the end which was a bit of an anti climax to b honest! (im gona get killed for that arent i)
its gotta b the emperor; he manipulated everything and can therefore be said to be directly responsible for the evil in the films

Yes, what the hell is Grevious? At first he's a robot that coughs. Okay, I can deal with that, I mean the damn space fighters sound like P-51 Thunderbolts so why not a robot that coughs? Then he smashes the damn windscreen on the spaceship and flies out into vacuum and I think, "Okay, so he doesn't need to breath." Then later we find out he is a chunk of meat in a robot suit, making him Robogeneral, part alien, part machine, all Grievious.
It doesn't work as a foreshadowing of Vader's robotic bits, so why is it there? My theory is that the massive computers they used to do the CGI added it in themselves. It's an attempt at propaganda to show that droids are good, and organic beings are bad. (Metal brain good! Meat brain bad!)

i think the real question is who would win in a lightsabre fight Darth Maul or Anikin Skywalker
voted for Darth Maul.
Emperor is the best evil villain ever. Tarkin is the best SW non-force-user villain (and he is literally 'cool'), but Darth Maul is my favourite for style.

Grand Moff Tarkin. He's evil in a delightfully understated and stylish way.
Did anyone else notice how in the original movies almost all of the imperial officers had British accents? Or is that just paranoia on my part?

Why, it all makes sense now. Star Wars is just a rehash of the American revolution.

It's true. Did you know that in the original trilogy, most minor-role Rebels were playe by British actors, but they were voiced-over with American accents. I think Lukas likes his villains to have foreign accents. Notice how the Trade Federation people in eps I to III have Japanese accents.

Vader all the way... Darth Vader is clearly the best villan of all time. I mean, from the moment he steps onboard the Tantiv IV in A New Hope, we understand that this is one bad mutha (shut yo mouth). He basically walks around and makes sure that EVERYONE is having a really bad day. He's like 7" of black metal and bad attitude, and his voice is done by James Earl Jones... there's just no topping Darth Vader.

My favorite villain is the Imperial dude in ep IV who doesn't bother shooting the escape pod carrying C3PO and R2D2 because it contained no life signs thus allowing the trilogy to happen.

The trade federation didn't sound Japanese to me. Apart from that teeth sucking noise, which is odd, because I don't think they had teeth. Yes, you could say they had some kind of "Asian" sound to their accents, but it's not something I cold put my finger on. What I think Lucas does is, he takes human languages and bases his alien tounges on them so they will sound like a real language and not made up crap. Why he didn't do that with Chewie, I don't know.
CHEWBACCA: ARRRRRGHHHHHH!!!
HAN SOLO: Well no, I don't believe in pre-destination, but I don't see how we can disprove it.
CHEWBACCA: ARGH!
HAN SOLO: No, I don't think advances in quantum theory provide evidence that can decide the philosophical matter one way or the other.

Exar Kun all the way. He pwns pretty much half the universe, and his soul lives locked in a temple for long enough to infect one of Luke's Jedi students on Yavin 4. I call that pretty badass.

Just to clear something up, grevious was a livinig being but was rebuilt as a droid. In the clone wars series (which tells what happens between attack of the clones and ROTS and is brilliant) grevious manages to kill about six jedi, and when he captured palpatine, he was just about to get away scott free when mace windu crushed his chest. Which explains the coughing.
Anyway, sidious is one of the best movie villians ever, and by far in the star wars series. He's just soo cool.

Ah, so Griveous coughs because of some background story we aren't shown in the movies. A little confusing for those who aren't in the know. So the term Droid General means the General of the droids, rather than a droid who is a General.

He's got a point.
But I went with Anakin Skywalker.
Did anyone else notice how in the original movies almost all of the imperial officers had British accents? Or is that just paranoia on my part?
Most Imperial officers are from the upper human classes of Corascant (sp?). This is also why Obi-Wan has a british accent. Appanently he is from a rather well to do family, thus making his sacrafice to be a Jedi even more admirable.
And now, a ranking:
1. Darth Vader- Coolest voice, coolest look, ruthlesly dealt with his inferiors. That's my kind of villain.
2. Palpatine- Incredibly powerful in the force and a master manipulater, also has the coolest lines in the series
3. Tarkin- He's evil in a delightfully understated and stylish way. that says it all
4. Greivous- if you have read the book or have seen the "Clone Wars" series you know he is totally rutheless and incredibly effective. Plus he uses lightsabers and isn't even a jedi.
tied 5. Maul- Scary looking as anything. However, mindless, brainwashed killing machine doesn't mean vilanous to me. His downfall being his arrogance is an appropriat downfall for a villain, however.
tied 5. Dooku- Overall a pretty ausome villain, but his trusting of a Sith Lord was just stupid and ultimatly his downfall
7. Jango/Boba Fett- sorry to all you Fett fans out there but their shared get killed easily and anti-climacticly gene diqualifies them from greatness
8. Jabba- a creature's downfall being a bondage fetish does not a villain make
9. Evil Anakin: Baby killing, wife beating, melodramatic pretty boys are not villains, just annoying

Vader. No contest whatsoever. Darth Vader is, has been, and always will be the ultimate embodiment of all that is evil and wrong in the Universe. And, James Earl Jones has the coolest voice of all time.
Voted for other.
