This is a general (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=423572) list of what I want (25th post). If I were to be specific there would not be a garage large enough to fit them all. But if there was one, single car that I would want so much I would consider even having sex with (not really), it would have to be.......

I put sports cars, but that is only part of the story. I like european sports cars, some select muscle cars and cruisers (such as the 51 Merc, 49 Caddy Sedanette and 59 Caddy, natch...) but I also like micro cars, like the original Mini, the KR200, the Midget, the BMW Isetta, Honda 600, etc. Something about tiny cars is just really cool to me. And if big flashy cars are 'trying to cover for something,' imagine what a tiny car is saying about your penis...(I don't actually buy into any of that, but it is kinda funny.)

I own a car that is as sleek and modern as the man who drives it - A car that isn't afraid to show it's sensitive side but at the same time is prepared to kick some ass - A car that can handle the tight curves and stay on the road in slippery situations - A car that can bring home the bacon and also fry it up in the pan - A car that is a living metaphor to my own individual cliche.

I thought that was the definition of a car! (that it guzzles petrol, that is, not the opposite!) :p

In all seriousness, I really don't like cars, as I can't drive them, and they only cause problems. Case in point: the carparks that are the Sydney Motorway Network.

To be a little more serious:
I Prefer sports cars, specificly Classic Sportscars. This is what I drive (http://www.ritzsite.net/Fiat_Dino/01_Fiat_Dino.htm) Its just someones site, not pix of my own car, but the pics are much better than my own, which is Silver instead of Red. Italian sportscars are a lot of fun to drive. If you baby them, they breakdown. If you drive them like a race car (very hard) they hardly every breakdown.

Its pretty awesome though. The real thing (Lotus) would be pretty sweet too. I like how Catterham has gone from replicas and productions to a proper (if tiny) manufacturer. I wish open wheels were street legal.

HA! "It Goes Like Stink!" is an phrase my dad picked up after an Irish friend of his took it upon himself to teach my dad better English. My dad even picked up some of his friends Irish accent in the process. Fortunately the accent was of the buttery smooth high society type and not of some pig farmer.
All my friends picked up the "Goes like stimk" line from my dad and now use themselves (mostly in jokes). Seeing you use it on here made me smile.

The Caterham and other open wheels are legal in Canada (I've seen a few on the roads). Technically the Prowler is an open wheel car and its street legal, same with the Panoz Roadster. And yes the Caterham version and the Lotus 7 are little amazing cars. Wanted one ever since I saw and original 7 at a car show. :)

A friend of my dad owned a Lotus 23B for almost 20 years. that was a sweet machine.

I'm fairly certain open-wheeled cars are not street legal in Cananda. They still have to have fairing along the top of the wheel. So technicly, they aren't open wheeled. Not that it matters all that much.

A car that gets good gas milage. The more economy the better. I don't need an SUV to drive around town & I know I'd loose my license if I owned a sports car. Truck? I haul things maybe once a year tops so Truck? No need. Right now a small car with 4 seats for may family will do the trick. If I can fill up for a week on $20 I'm a happy camper right now

1968 VW Type I (Bug). Got one. Rebuilding it into an alt-fuel commuting car.

Otherwise, a small fuel-efficient station wagon to haul crap in. Got one of those too - 1995 Mercury Tracer/Ford Escort. Bought used for less than $3,000 US it's got 150,000mi (241.395km) on the 88hp engine & it still gets 30mi/gal (12.75k/l) in town.

I have a 67 Bus. What and how are you converting your too? Are you going to be able to use the Type I still as a core? How much is it costing you? I live in a relatively hippy town and can join co-ops, but I wasn't aware I could convert my Type II (a type I with a different fuel pump) to alt-fuel. If I have to travel to LA or Sacramento can I use regular gas in a pinch?

This will actually give you too close to a clue as to my real name, but I'm going to assume you don't care enough to find out-

My grandfather was the first person to sell Land Rovers in the western states and the first to successfully put V8s in them. I've always wanted to track down one of the original 36 he did, but unless people feel like giving me one there isn't much point right now...

60s.(the one we had for a while was a SIII wagon, I think. I was a kid, but the mounting went into any of them of the time) And the problem was that the mounts couldn't hold something that big. He wasn't doing it for top speed, he was doing it for torque (he was an old school gearhead from the 'no substitution for cubic inches' crowd). He had the same problem with disbelief when he did it, having a magazine call him a liar. He drove a clutch of them down to their offices after which Land Rover visited his shop. Variations of his mounts are being used in modern Rovers with V8s. As an old school gear head, he had never heard of a patent...

Well, I'm digging through some old Muir data on LPG conversion kits. On a Type I engine you can get better HP, almost Zero emmissions and vastly extended engine life (no carbon fouling). Couple that with a new cam & 1776 piston kits and you've got a nice mover.

In a pinch you can hook up a couple of 15lb Grill/camper bottles in the purse hatch if you plumb it right...

Where are you getting the conversion? What is it costing you? Is LPG the same as propane? Cause I can get that just about anywhere, there is a lot of camping around this state. well they started building the SIII in the late 60s/early 70s and they did build a V8 version called a stage 1 V8 in uk (that looks really good - wanna get one of them too) so that would make sense. of course the first v8s to be used in landrovers were modified buick engines so maybe if they saw your grandfathers modifications, that led landrover to pursue the option of a V8 version.

Sorry, I found the website I was asking the other guy for and was intrigued. Another on the list.

The SIII that we had (my dad) was just the one that was left over. I'm not sure which model he started on. He was just one of those guys, just grabbed a wrench and went and did it and didn't talk about it much. I loved that SIII, it was a total brute and shaped how I felt about 4X4 trucks (such as, if the truck slides down a slope and hits a tree and you're more concerned about the tree you're in the right truck.) That thing was thug. I miss it. (My dad used to tell me that we had to hand crank the windshield whipers to get them started, so I'd start hand cranking and then he'd turn them on...ah, memories...)

#1 If you haven't got a copy of "How to keep your WV alive practically forever (http://www.bfyobsoleteparts.com/volkswagen/beetle/John-Muir-Idiot-Book-p-6.html)" by John Muir - shame on you. There is a whole chapter devoted to LPG (Liquid Propane Gas) conversion. Unfortunately, most of the companies that made kits aren't around any more. Fortunately, any really whiz-bang small engine/forklift shop should be able to do the carb conversion for you. Unfortunately someone will have to make you a pressure tank. Fortunately I can fit a 15gal pressure tank in the front boot of my Bug. Unfortunately, that's harder to do on a Combi. You will probably have to go with an in-bus tank. LP engines run somewhat hotter than Petrol. Combis don't cool as well as Bugs - even after modification. Lots of trade offs. Some more practical than others.

#2 No, sorry. No links. I've just started the process myself. Up until last October it was my daily driver and I'm squirreling away $$$ for the resto.

Ah, not only do I have that book, but I have two editions. But, since I can't follow instructions, I never read the book cover to cover I just look at it when something is going wrong. I'll go out and look it all up. I found this (http://www.wps.com/LPG/LPG-book-final.html#DUAL%20FUEL%20SYSTEMS) link, and some others. These (http://www.aircooledtechnology.com/Home_Page.htm) guys used to have a pretty good cooling system on thier site, but as I just went to it it seems they have switched focus a bit, so I'll have to go looking for that central cooling thing again (the damn thing already runs pretty hot on regular gas.)

Thanks for the heads up, this is definetly on the list.

Heh. I have 2 editions as well. My Library 1998 17th ed and my grubby grease-coated (IIRC) 1975 ed. that's never leaves the boot.

Another car I'd definately like to get my hands on is one of those little air-cooled SMART deisel T top sporters. They had one at the Chicago Auto Show (along with the sedans). They are just too cool. Too bad they aren't available in the US and I'm trying to come up with $5,000 for a half-way decent bug resto.

Mclaren (forgot who makes it)

Uhhh....Mclaren makes the F1; Mclaren being the manufacturer and F1 being the model of car.
Cannot think of a name

They really are a racing team/manufacturer. The F1 is the only stand alone street car they ever made (using a BMW engine) and was a 'victory car' for thier success in Formula 1.

They are now partnering with their current engine suplier and co-owner Mercedes Benz to make the McLaren/Mercedes SLR. McLaren has also done 'versions' of other cars, including the Mustang.

Hmm.

I would like the new Ferrari F30 Spyder. Or the classic Ferrari F50. Or the very nice new Ferrari Enzo. Or if you want me to get away from Ferrari, a Lotus Exige just so I can take to Australia where it's legal and drive it. Or a Porche Carrera GT. But if you want to crush all my hopes and dreams of being a lord that gets any car on command and introduce the concept of... this "buying" thing... I guess if I can push what I afford a little I'd get a Nissan 350Z.

Yes I like cars. Leave me alone.

I don't know why you'd think that'd be a problem in this thread.

You never know, I always get dragged off for obsessing over whatever nice things I happen to see in a parking lot even with my friends who do like cars. But yes that is a good point.
