In a few weeks, the world is coming to a political point. What is potentially the worlds biggest event of its type and the biggest concert ever, twice the size of Live Aid will happen on the 2nd July. As part of makepovertyhistory, up to 5m people will be involved worldwide with up to 3bn watching on big screens, tv, online or listening on the radio.
Will hundreds of thousands of people in Edinburgh rallying, more than 5 Live 8 concerts, millions of people and hundreds of celebrities including people like Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, Nelson Mandela and The Pope really change the world and ultimateley end poverty?
We'll see, but I urge you to be in Edinburgh or at a Live 8 concert on the 2nd July to be part of history. Whether this changes things or not it will make history as the biggest event of its type ever.

Hopefully I'll get a day of work because of this, allthough I do fear that my home city is going to be ripped to shreads by all the Anti-Capatalist protesters. :(

*yawn* nothing will happen. History is not about individuals. It's about sociological forces. There is nothing that can stop that. Poverty is part of human existence.

What I want to know is why the hell they gave it such a stupid name!!

I know where the 8 comes from, but it is still a stupid name.

And Myothic Kelkia is right. this will acheive little, if anything, in the long term, and not a great deal in the short term either.
