Third Person Dreaming

OK, inspired by the nightmare thread... Do you dream in third person?
It wasn't until about 18 months ago, upon looking at a website about dreaming, that I realized that I was in the minority of people that dreams almost exclusively in the third person.

What I mean by "third person" is this: in dreams, I see myself from outside my body. The only dreams I've ever had that weren't in third person where all lucid dreams - which is unfortunately something that's only happened to me a few times. All my normal dreams are in third person, and I believe even one or two of my lucid dreams may have been. Now, whenever I try to explain this to people, they always say something like "so it's like it's happening to someone else?" which always kinda frustrates me - it's not happening to someone else. I know it's me. It's just that instead of my viewpoint being from inside my head, it's outside of it. In other words, its more like a videogame than a movie. Does anyone else experience this? And if so, how often? Just wondering how common this is...

I have dreams in the third person perspective as often as I have dreams in the first person perspective. I've gotten used to it.

I voted other, because I can't remember my dreams. Which, given my luck, means tht they are important prophecies, and earth will be doomed because I forgot.

Mine fade in and out of the third person, and it's not uncommon for me to see through the eyes of several people in the dream. I remember one in particular, but it's quite graphic, sexually.

My dreams usually involve blood gore sex and monsters. And are in first person all the time, but sometimes I know what other people are thinking in them.

My nightmares are memories of how I lost people. (best friend because of a mortar round) a couple times I may see myself in the scene from another perspective, but not often

One time I had a dream which was, in very simple sense, like playing through one level of a doom like game over and over, except it wasn't doom, it was a sort of twisted reality. I kept going down this corridor which was green with mist on the ground, and a monster kept jumping out and scaring me and making me fall down a pit terrified. On the seventh time I just slammed the side of it's head into the wall over and over until the skull broke open.

I dream about weird (but not disturbing) things in first person. My dreams are never lucid and I hardly ever remember them by midday the next day.

My dreams shift from all perspectives constantly. In some of them I'm myself, in others I'm watching myself, in others I'm an invisible observer and at certain points I am a completely different person.

Yes, I dream in third person. I also have bizarre dreams where I'm in two or more places at the same time. I once dreamt I was a notion racing against other notions, with the winning notion becoming a thought.

But I'm both bipolar and an ex-oppiate addict, both of which do interesting things to the part of the brain invovled in Deep REM Sleep. When I'm manic my dreams get VERY weird and interesting. I had such horrible and vivid nightmares when going through Morphine withdrawal that what I used to call nightmares are now a walk in the park (a little creepy though)

I've done Lucid Dreaming on and off for years, sometimes with great success and at others just completely failing to acheive a thing.

I've had all types of dreams. Lucid, first-person, third-person, and prophecies. I have died in most of my dreams though, usually by falling or drowning. Hopefully those aren't prophecies....

You mean prophecies like you have a 10 minute dream that you remember vividly for a while, and then it actually happens in reality? That happens to me all the time, rarely do I actually change the situation (the situation usually isn't that bad, and it's usually over before I realise)

Sometimes I see myself in third person, with different age; sometimes in first person with different age. Usually they all come mixed. In the same night I dream in third and first person.

Wow, I didn't know that was unusual... That's all I dream in, and it's really weird. There's no good way to explain it, really--it's not like it's happening to someone else, it's you, and you're you, but it's just like your eyeballs are having an out-of-body experience.
