The Crazy Frog

Mediocre Obscurity

In England the current number 1 single is a ringtone called The Crazy Frog vs Axel F. If you have not heard this I cannot describe how bad it is!

Anyway I'm interested...what do other people think of the frog? Annoying or novelty? Is it an international, er, 'phenomenon' or is just in the UK?

My personal opinion is......the Frog must die!! :mp5:

Unfortunately all you need to do to see the video repeatedly is watch an advert break on British TV...I garantee you will see the damn Frog at least twice each advert break. :headbang:

The insanity test was cool and funny, but as said above its Jamba/Jamster who stole it put a picture to it and force it down our throats ever advertising break. One time I saw the advert back to back 3 times, plus all the advetising methods used boarder rules laid down by OFcom (i know this due to revision for a media exam), as youngsters are very impressionable.

Actually, it was created as an impression some guy did of his friends' mopeds to amuse them. It later got put on the internet in the form of the insanity test.

And I was talking about the "music" version on the TV.

whether or not this is the petition mentioned earlier i dont know, but the last time i checked almost 7000 people had signed it.

i would personally not think twice before aquiring a shotgun and blowing the bollocks off whoever stole the sound file.

i have a large scale plan to put jamster out of business by getting all their ringtones for free (which i can do, honest) and then somehow bankrupting them.

The Axel F tune has been rereleased every few years since Beverly Hills cop and always gets high in the charts.

The new Crazy Frog sound though is stolen. I appear to be the only one that knows this and i doubt the publishers asked permission to use the sample from the original author.

Why is it stolen? Because i am such an immensely huge nerd, i can remember most odd things that i've come across on the internet.
The 'rrring ding ding ding a bum ba bum..' actually comes from a Flash program that was floating around the net a couple of years ago. There was no one site, it was on many, but it was labelled as 'The Insanity Test' and displayed a picture of a Formula 1 car (Rubens Barrichello's Ferrari, for the super-nerds) and the 'rring ding..' sound effects.

Funny thing is they haven't just taken the idea, they've taken the original sound recording and they haven't changed it at all, same bloke. same sounds. Which leaves them wide open to a court case.

Its been tried. Ofcom can't do shit cos it's not offensive, people are just complaining cos it's on all the time and the frequency of advert showing is not in Ofcoms remit.

However, a bit of consumer pressure on the commercial channels that show the advert might just do the trick eh?

this is where you can let ITV know what you think, I heard they've already had like 7000 e mails. If we ALL e mail them and threaten to watch BBC til the advert is removed from air then, er, they won't listen and we have to watch BBC for eternity

Or you could turn your TV off :)

In England the current number 1 single is a ringtone called The Crazy Frog vs Axel F. If you have not heard this I cannot describe how bad it is!

Anyway I'm interested...what do other people think of the frog? Annoying or novelty? Is it an international, er, 'phenomenon' or is just in the UK?

well i cannot say i have heard all of the song, so i am ignorant at the moment.
from the clips i have heard, i quite like it. the original ringtone is even better. but i do not see how you can have ssssoooooooooo many versions of the same thing. and yes, if the song is like the bit i heard over and over again, it would get annoying.

buy think how it feels to be coldplay! their next album will be released as a ringtone first, then they'll conquer the charts.
you can see each member with their mobile out, with the little program on it with which you can write your own ring tone, clicking for the next 5 hours trying to compress each song into polyphonic

well, i just emailed good old Tone about the problem...

haha, just realised that "tone" is like "ringtone"

i meant as in Tony Blair... anyhow, you can email the minister for media at this address andrew.mcintosh@culture.gsi.gov.uk

i'm sure he will appreciate your emails ^_^

luckily, i rarely watch television, and so i was safe from this until recently, as i caught an episode of Hollyoaks during my dinner, and it attacked me 3 or 4 times.... :headbang:

i find that if you only watch quality programs, it doesn't show up...

Also, if you meet someone in a social engagement, simply ask them "do you like that crazy frog ringtone thing?" and if they say yes, you can safely cut them out of your life without having to waste valuable time talking to someone who is below you in the grand scheme of things.

For that aspect, i am grateful to jamster, but it really is just horrible....

New Watenho
05-06-2005, 15:55
No, the first time it was not funny. The first time it was obvious exactly what it was: pathetic. The first time, and all subsequent times, anyone with a frontal lobe should have muted the television and fought one's younger siblings/flatmates/significant other tooth and claw to maintain control of the remote long enough to keep them from turning it back on. I do not appreciate being told the same thing twice, three times in the same advert break, yet I swear to God in a break in daytime telly I was unfortunately compelled to watch by the sheer void of nothingness after the University exams (and also because I was waiting for someone who was late) it came on three times in the same ad break. This is pathetic. This is a waste of money. It's philosophically fascinating to notice this particular simulation has become a simulacrum, existing now not as a property of anything else, that is, pop music, but for itself; that now ringtones are being created for their own sake, rather than of music tracks, and are only coincidentally becoming hit singles - oh, but WAIT! That wasn't a coincidence at all! That was a pathetically-disguised marketing scheme right from the beginning! Get it on the phones, so the mindless masses will have no choice but to go out and buy the damn single! Now, I don't like Coldplay all that much, but that they were beaten by a MASS-MANUFACTURED REMIX that WASN'T EVEN THAT GOOD is indicative that maybe John Stuart Mill was right, and maybe society should have a set of intelligent, cultured people telling them what is right to consider "beautiful".

It's one step from here to Hitler. Mark my words.
