Apparently, the image of our president is as offensive to MTV as it is to me

Best. Quote. Ever.

Anyways, MTV claims to want to be non-political, but it is glaringly obvious that what they really mean is they only want to be political if good things are being said. Did they complain when Kid Rock ran around in an American flag yelling "America is great!"?

I think NIN should hold a concert - televised - at the same time as the awards show. It wouldn't affect that 12-year old teenybopper types, but I bet ratings for the show would drop significantly.

Awesome quote, but very sad because it shows that MTV are pandering to the government.

What happened to the days when music was pretty much EXPECTED to be political? Are we seriously going to start saying, "Music should be objective, blah, blah, blah, bias, blah..."??

I would watch NIN in a heartbeat over that stupid show ... watched it last year for the first time ... disgusting mixture of all "teen" picked bands (boy bands and wanabe rappers)

MTV got out of music, it's been "I don't want my eMpTy V."

First MTV stopped playing videos. Then VH1. Now MTV2 is drifting... :(

Yeah, well at least we still have Fuse and VH1 Classic. MTV is MoronTV.

Yeah... but I wish they'd split the disco show out of VH1 Classic & put it on VH1 Soul. Probably would have a bigger audiece cross-section...

And whatever happened to MTV-X???

Dunno about MTV-X, but as long as I have Pop-Up Video, I'm alright.

Oh, and I find the image of the President to be offensive too. :)

MTV-X was the hard rock/metal channel... came out the same time Classic did. Disappeared a couple years ago.

I find the President's image less offensive than Rosie O'Donnells, but more offensive than Michael Bloomberg.

LOL, I should have had a poll on how many people find Bush's image offensive. =)

I can't think of a time when MTV didn't pander to somebody. What do you expect of a light entertainment network, seriously? I hardly think they, or the mega-corporations who advertise on their network, are willing to tilt at the boogeyman of the minute in them thar United States of Perpetual Fear & Loathing - the increasingly alluded-to threat of the right-wing/Christian fundamentalist boycott.

Those God-fearin', gun-totin' redneck Republican teenyboppers apparently have greater disposable incomes than their liberal counterparts.

That, or the noose is tightening. Take your pick, and remember to breathe while you still can, folks...!

I'd almost say that MTV did this because, well, their target market audience (sadly enought) doesn't care about politics and feels that doing such a show would lower viewer interest, and might actually turn some viewers off.

It's certainly not pandering to the government, but certainly to their viewers.

Fitting, since most people find MTV offensive for one reason or another.

Meh. If Viacom doesn't want to alienate half its audience, Viacom doesn't have to alienate half its audience, etc. If there's no breach of contract, there's no issue.

Would putting an image of our president up on a screen alienate half of their audience?

Interesting.

Me too, this is the first I've heard about such a thing in years.

In other news, I really like the Foo Fighters, its a pity they're the replacement band here. I'd love it to be Kid Rock wrapped in an American flag again ;)

You see, then I could just be unreasonable and hate freely (gods above I hate Kid rock so d*mn much!). As it is I'm still not gonna watch it, but I like both of the bands, so I'm torn.
