i think despite what you think there are more people who beleive in god but dont care. like me... i mean sure, maybe gods there, but whatever. not gonna dominate my life. i dont think a lot of the athiest people are truly "athiest" they just dont really care and dont worry. (sorry if that offended you athiests) however, there are those athiest people who are as preachy as the overzealous christians who constantly nag you about how fake god is or whatever. i mean, athiesm means the absence of religion, and athiest originated because people didn't want a religion to dominate their lives. but sometimes their belief in NO god dominates them. and that is hypocritical...

sorry if i offended anyone again... i just know some real losers.

Haha, I thought the nail comment was funny as well.
I've always been fond of the idea of a universal God, as is described in the Baha'i religion. Not necessarily a specific being, but instead a guiding force that created the harmonic rules that form the place we live in. God is a scientist in a way. I believe that humanity recognizes something greater... each religion a different mirror on the same God, some mirrors corrupting the original intention of the God more than others. I mean what do you expect from humanity? Our own wills and desires get in the way through the years... It's just a personal thing pretty much. Organized mass religion causes so much disharmony. Think about all the wars that have been fought over religion, or if not originally, became a religious war. It's insane.

Hey, being pagan for me means beleive ing not only in a god, but also a godess. It also depends on what path you follow as there are many to choose from just like being Christian, or Jewish. By the way there is nothing wrong with being atheist, or agnostic. My father was agnostic, and my brother was atheist until he got married and started to go to church with his wife and step children. It all depends on your own personal feelings and expieiences as to what you believe in.

Yep. It's even sillier than most religions. The "super double sekrit creation myth" for humans invoves an evil alien dictator who flies a bunch of people to earth for executions in DC-9 "space planes". Confession (called auditing) consists of tlling your fears and secrets to a member of the "church" whilr hooked up to a lie detector (excuse me "e-meter").

Well, I chose other.... but I'm surprised nobody has said agnostic yet.

My religion:

I have no idea whether there is or is not a God, and it's likely I will never know. I'm not going to spend my life trying to understand something that I can never know exists.

I think I'm the first mention of a Catholic on here.

Okay, I know this has huge potential to, in the eyes of some, seem a little stupid of me, but help me out here......my personal idea of religion involves a Higher Being of some sort.....so if one doesn't believe in any sort of god, wouldn't they be spiritual, rather than religious?

Eh, semantics, I guess it all depends on how one defines religion.

Well, then, I wish every success to (along with my prayers for) the Catholic and the Evangelist. You may enjoy being cold and heartless, but I much prefer meeting people who are warm hearted and full of life, and look forward to spending eternity with such people. :)

Somewhere else entirely:

I believe in God(s) because it makes the universe so much more interesting, and more importantly makes human existence more interesting. However I recognize that any God(s) I do believe in are purely cultural memetic constructs.

Note, however, that this does not mean I believe they don't exist. If anything, knowing what they are makes it that much easier to believe in them. They are, in essence, the souls of a culture. I believe that humanity created Gods for precisely this reason; to make culture possible.

A culture without Gods is essentially dead; and a culture that worships alien Gods instead of it's true Gods (take, for example, Christian European/North American culture, or Muslim Iran/Central Asia) is a perversion. The original Gods of a culture hold the most power and are the most relevent to that cultural group, no matter how long they might have been forgotten. This is why I, as a descendent of Indo-Europeans, worship and honour the original Indo-European deities of Pagan Europe and Vedic India.

someone asked about Buddhists. Here I am. And yes, you can be Buddhist and Christain. Also, I'm a bit of a universalist.

A specific religion is simply a set of symbology to understanding the incomprehensible. God is God, whether you call Him God, Trinity, Mother Earth, Allah, Brahmin, Holy Spirit, Om, Nirvana, Toa, whatever. It's all, really, the same.

And Orthodoxy is very different then Catholosim. Y'all've changed alot since the Great Schism.

Yes, I realise the irony of those last two paragraphs being right next to each other. The religion and symbology and path to God are different. The destination is not.

Which is why I didn't take the Greek Orthodox into consideration as Catholic (no offense, Katzistanza) and perhaps "mistakenly" percieved myself to be the first Catholic to post. Sorry 'bout that, differing beliefs again, I suppose.

I don't like the word "religious", as it denotes adherence to an organized structure, or membership in an organized religion.

I'm an agnostic, but I still have a spiritual (as opposed to "religious") side.
