Do you want to kick a Fundamentalist Regime's rear on the Internet?

Friends! Netizens! I am addressing this letter to all those who care about liberty. About freedom of speech. Of expression. Of protest. I am writing you because there are some who might soon not be able to write anymore. The bloggers of Iran.

"What?" - you exclaim - "Iran has a blogosphere?" No. It doesn’t. But not because the Iranians are too poor or ignorant for computers - but because the Iranian government is busy stomping it out. Right up until June, 2004, Iran had a flowering Internet community. Five million users. 100,000 bloggers. And then…

But last June the Iranian judiciary put in place a more sophisticated filtering system that blocks Iranian access to political Web sites and blogs. … Then in September, officials got serious, arresting, interrogating, and even jailing some of the country's bloggers, according to human rights groups. Two of those writers, Mojtaba Saminejad and Mohammad Reza Nasab Abdolahi, remain in prison.

Let me explain to you what this means. You may blame Bush of being a "dictator.’ You may call the EU a "police state". But whatever your political position is - those countries are still a pale imitation of this. The FBI and the GSC are not knocking or your door. Mojtaba Saminejad and Mohammad Reza Nasab are now in prison - because they live in a real police state. They may be tortured. Or starving. We don’t know.

Those two people went to prison because they believed in freedom. Do you believe in freedom? Do you believe, well and truly, that Mojtaba Saminejad and Mohammad Reza Nasab deserve to be free? Now tell me - why are Mojtaba Saminejad and Mohammad Reza Nasab unable to speak - yet Sayyeed Ali Khameinei - their torturer and prison guard - is able to maintain his voice?

His site - http://www.leader.ir/ - has not been shut down. He is not in prison. He is walking free and eating well even as his victims suffer.

Friends, here is my offer. On Irani Election Day, at 12:00, Noon, Teherantime, June 17th, 2005, we silence Sayyed Ali Khamenei.

It can be done simply - log on to http://www.leader.ir/ at that time - and reload your browser multiple times. This would have the effects of a true DNS attack - and yet it is fully legal.

You may if you wish send an email to your closest media outlet about this .We should be heard. Mr. Saminejad and Mr. Nasab should be heard. Sayeed Ali Khameinei, their torturer, should just shut the fuck up.

Please check for news at:

http://shutupsayeed.blogspot.com/

In other options, info@leader.ir is the site’s e-mail address. Feel free to e-mail them with your favorite MP3 song or whatever. J

P.S. In other options, info@leader.ir is the site’s e-mail address. Feel free to e-mail them with your favorite MP3 song or whatever. In fact, you can start mailing them now - just mention this protest in the letter. Let them know why we’re out for them.

I came up with the idea, although Allanea has done most of the work on it. As such, I'd like to ask that you don't use programs. I'm pretty sure those are illegal, and I don't want to have to deal with conspiracy charges.

If you're wondering who I am, I'm the nation of Feline, who is currently having long-term difficulties getting on the forums.

I can't think of any reason why a different attack time couldn't be made, although it would diminish the effectiveness of each individual attack, multiple attacks might be better.

I think you might want to make sure that those media outlets you speak to, are aware that what you are doing is not sanctioned by your respective governments. Otherwise you could end upcreating an international incident. Whereby getting yourselves in trouble.

OK. First of all, re-post this message on every forum you can, and second, be there on 3 ET [That's US Eastern time], with your finger on your F5 button.
Don't ping it. They'll just dump that traffic, and providers around the world may just start to do this anyway, before they're routed to Iran when they notice a surge converging. Just hitting F5 will reload from cache for many people.

Something like using wget (which is something of a browser in it's own way) to yank all the large graphics (does it have video?) of the site and sending them to dev/null would be far more potent.

Try to get this posted on Fark, Slashdot, Kuro5hin, Craig's List and maybe a highly placed site on google about the project, and the crush of traffic will be the stuff of legend for the five minutes following H-hour on D-day. I might even recommend using the site's IP address, and addresses of other carefully selected sites.

The dumb bastards have at least one video, and creepy pictures.

If I can do this, I will.

If ET is the same as EST, or the time in New York, then it is currently GMT-4, assuming that it runs on Summer Time.

Thus, 0300 AM EST is 0700 AM GMT, and 1500 EST is 1900 GMT. Depending on which is meant here, it seems pretty ambiguous.

Edit: If it's supposed to be 1200 noon in Teheran, then I guess you mean 07:00 AM GMT.

He is using a cluster, yes. One can see that with a tcpdump. I would not say that it is impossible despite that... the weak point of any cluster is the load balancing computer and it _can_ be DDoSed. M$ is using a cluster too and they _were_ DDoSed.

Deadlines are great, especially the sound when they pass!

It took 2 1.5 liter bottles of Freeway Cola to finish my program, which basically gives you 20 instances to reload instead of just one. The program is written in Java and works where a Java-VM exists, which basically means Windows, Linux, MacOS and FreeBSD. Problem is: I have no Windows, MacOS or FreeBSD, so I did not test it there. This program contains no malicious code for the own computer. Hey, it would basically be impossible to write malicious routines for an OS, I don't own and I am too pro-Linux to injure a Penguin.

The code can be DLed at http://microbalrog.flashwirenetwork.net/requester.java

The class files are at:
http://microbalrog.flashwirenetwork.net/requester.class
http://microbalrog.flashwirenetwork.net/reqthread.class

How to use it:
You need the JAVA-JRE to make the program run. you can get it from java.sun.com . It doesn't matter whether you use 1.4.2 or a higher version. When you have installed the JRE, copy all .class files into the directory in which you can find java.exe. If you are using Linux, you can simply store the files in your home-directory. If you are a Windows-user, open a DOS box, type 'cd "<whereeveritis>"' (replace <whereeveritis> with the path in which the requester is) 'java requester'. As Linuxiano, you can open a terminal (xterm for example) and then type 'java requester'.

PS: Feel free to send me Cola if you like the program :>
