While I'm not Muslim myself my best friend is. From what I've been told anyone can read the Qu'ran, touch it or whatever, but it must be treated with reverence at all. It's the word of Allah and must therefore be respected. My friend keeps his Qu'ran on top of a special stand and dusts the cover every few weeks.

The Holy Qu'ran, The Bible and the Torrah are all sacred books in Islam. Anyone can touch them, they are just not to be disrespected.

Hey, wait. I'm a Christian, but once, in the field as a soldier, I ran out of toilet paper...

You know, if God is going to give me a hard time about that one...

I don't think that God cares about a bundle of paper with ink on the pages.

Tell your friend to stop letting it collect dust. :p

The Old Testimant of the bible at least. The idea the Jesus had some omnipotent power is against the 'only one god' concept in Islam.

I could be wrong, but I believe that Muslims often have their own personal copy - which no non-Muslim should touch. It is to be kept very, very clean. A friend of mine washes his hands thoroughly before ever picking his own copy up. However, he has no problem with the fact that my boyfriend, who is not Muslim, owns a copy.

Does that make sense?

There may of been some truth to this in the past, I don't know for sure. However, the reason I surmise it's possible in the past is because the same was true of the bible. In fact Christians didn't want anyone outside of the church to even know how to read. They didn't want them to think for themselves nor question the church. There was a time if they found out you could even read you would be burned at the stake. So because this was once true of Christianity, I suppose it's possible that it was also true at one time of the Qu' ran.
