Anyone work in fast food?

Okay, after searching for a job for a year now, and being unsuccessful, I have decided maybe it's time to look at maybe a fast food job. I have been reluctant to do so, because I have long hair and I'm afraid they'll make me cut it, and I think it may be an overly stressful job.

The only job I've ever had was a summer job at a movie theater concession stand.

Is it a stressful job, and are the managers dicks?

No, I don't work in Fast Food, just vomit in it.
I worked at Wendy's once. The managers were all dicks who couldn't figure out how to tie their own shoelaces. The head manager had a degree in business which he thought meant he knew something but was in fact the most expensive piece of toilet paper he owned. He was brainwashed by company policy and thought everyone else should be too. It was a lousy place to work, but the other employees weren't too bad, just students who needed cashmoney.

Get a job in Landscaping or Construction. Much more difficult but the wages are at least double what you get in the Fast Food sector.

I would, but I'm not a strong guy and am only looking for a part time job in a really small city. (City I live in only has 80,000 people)

Its perhaps one of the most stressful jobs possible, the hours are frequently lousy, the managers are uniformly bad, chances are you'll be burned on the job and be pressured not to report it. The pay is the lowest bracket possible, and unless you stay for over a year, it does nothing for your resume.

All in all, not a good job, but it IS a job. I looked for a job for over 2 years. I was actually turned down by 5 fast food joints in that time period...how depressing it that? A college education, management training, totally open schedule, and I'm don't even get to work a fry machine. Unqualified to flip burgers.

**sigh**

I'm done ranting. Good luck on the job hunt. Don't worry, most people have enough luck to find a job in under 18 months. Not everyone is burdened by over-education.

I worked at Burger King once. It wasn't so bad. You could get a good or a bad manager anywhere.

Because of the minimum wage pay, I wouldn't recommend it unless you're looking for just a summer job or maybe unless you're still in high school. It's definately not the kind of job you want to invest in full-time for longer than a summer.

Well, here's my situation. I just moved out on my own into a $445 a month apartment. My mom wants me to find a job pretty quick (been here 2 1/2 months now), so I can pay for my electricity, phone, DSL, and groceries. She'll pay the rent for now. I am taking 1 summer college class at the moment. I probably will not get into the college here until Winter semester next year. I am a Sophmore, but they fracked me over on being a transfer. I am looking for a part time job that will let me work anytime besides mornings (I am GRUMPY in the morning). I've been interviewed at Best Buy, but I could tell as I was being interviewed, that I did not make the best impression. I refuse to cut my shoulderlength hair, but that's all. As long as I get over $5.50 an hour, I'll be okay I think.

If you must go with a fast-food type job, try to get in at a mom'n'pop pizza place. They usually have free pizza for employees and you can typically sneak beer.

I work at a concession stand one week a year selling corn dogs. Not bad for a week, but I definetly wouldnt recommend it for longer than that.

I just quit my job at Chick-fil-A. I had awesome managers and the rest of the staff was great. CFA is known for their courtesy and friendliness, though, so I can't say that this is the same at other restaurants.

Personally, I agree with Bill Gates when he said that every person in the US should work in a restaurant for at least a year. It totally humbles you and lets you know how the cashiers feel on the other side of the counter. People would stop being such anuses if they only knew.

A lot of restaurants are notorious for having horrible staff, service, and pay. I would try to stay away from these restaurants.

A lot of places would like you to have more "manly" hair though, I think. The most lenient they would be is to let you wear it held back by a rubber band or something. I had a friend that had a 'hawk and the managers wouldn't let him keep it. That is a little more extreme than long hair though.

Good luck in your search.

I once worked for a chicken outfit. Don't think they are around anymore.

Job was boring and the manager was a bitch.

Hey if you need the money, do it while looking for something better.

Fast food chains (small operaters are usually much better around here at least) tend to only hire juniors, once you're too old you get the arse. I got the arse just after I stopped being a junior and they had to pay me at an adult rate.

I agree with this 100%! Working at mom an pop pizza places are usually the best! I worked for one and it was a lot of fun... plus, the owner gave us free food! Sure, it paid crap, but it wasn't too bad.
