"I Tried to Do Something Special for My Son"

i just noticed this as i started up my puter. so, is she the bestest mom ever or should she be in jail for this?

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A mother faces criminal charges after she hired a stripper to dance at her 16-year-old son’s birthday party.

Anette Pharris, 34, has been indicted by a grand jury on charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and involving a minor in obscene acts. The boy’s father, the stripper and two others also face charges.

“I tried to do something special for my son,” Pharris said. “It didn’t harm him.”

About 10 people under the age of 18 were at the birthday party in September, including minors who were not related to the family, authorities said.

Police spokesman Don Aaron said minors are not permitted in adult establishments.

“A person shouldn’t be allowed to circumvent that law by hiring a stripper, a lady who took all her clothes off and spent a good amount of time dancing around minors,” he said.

Anette Pharris took photos at the party and tried to have them developed at a nearby drug store. Drug store employees notified authorities, police said.

“Who are they to tell me what I can and can’t show to my own children?” the mother said.

She certainly shouldn't be jailed, but this is an unusual and extreme case. She should be charged with a public order offence, or whatever the equivalent is over there. Sometimes at the extreme edges of laws like this injustices happen - that's why variable sentences are there, to minimise the unjust punishment of those who have broken laws with only the best at heart.

What she shows to her own son is her responsibility, but were the people he was with (the other minors) allowed by their parents to be there? If she checked with them and it was OK, then I don't think she's done anything wrong (morally, at least). What the law says about it may well be different I guess.

no, there have been many cases of developers turning people in for various photo indescretions.

jot this down for future reference

#1

dont take pics of your babies in the bathtub or running around naked. the developer will turn you in for CHILD PORN and you will spend a good long time in jail

#2
many unscrupulous workers will make extra copies of any "provocative" photos that come their way. these can end up anywhere.

I suppose you are one of those people who say"if you can´t beat them, join them",and think that since porn and or sexism is unavoidable, bring it on,homemade style.A questionable choice, but what really bothers me is society´s attitude, they download porn in order to masturbate at the age of 13 yet a stripper is a no-no? They steal dad´s magazines, have sex by the age of 15 and people are wasting good tax payer´s money to rattle on you and call the cops? They have lost more than a costumer over there! Try a digicam, Mrs. Jackson, I am for real.

There were photos, and the fact that she hired the stripper really makes the point moot on weather or not she watched.

What is morally wrong with it though ?
If his father would have taken him to a stripclub, there would probably have been very little outrage. In fact, many would call him a cool dad. Now that his mother has done the same, people think it is wrong.
Most people are still stuck in old fashioned stereotype rolpatterns it seems...

That said, law is law - even if one does not agree with it. And if the law says he was too young, she was in the wrong. And, as pointed out, she had no right to decide for the other teenagers present.
Ashmoria
30-05-2005, 21:27
society sets age limits on all sorts of activities. she would have gotten into more trouble if she had had a kegger for he 16 year olds bday party.

i dont think she should spend a year in jail for it. but you dont get around the law by bringing illegal activities into the privacy of your home. so she needs a good hard slap on the wrist

besides it probably violates zoning or subdivision rules.

Surprisingly, I'm with TInk on this one.

As a concept for her OWN child, it's her business. It's when she involved others' children without their parents' knowledge that she crossed the line.

Also, this woman is a complete idiot for developing the pictures at a local drugstore (or whatever) -- how could you not KNOW someone there was going to notice A) nudity and then B) the audience? You take pics like that to a high end developer/camera shop and inform them of the content beforehand to get their take on the issue. Better yet, you buy a digital camera and print them yourself. Lotsa foolproof systems out there expressly for the non computer-savvy user.

Finally, let's look at Mom's age here. 34. With a 16-year-old son. So she was a mom in the 17-19 range. Responsibility isn't her strong suit. Add to that her location -- Tennessee -- and you have a story that surprises me not in the least.

The age of sexual consent is one of the rare instances where the 10th Amendment to the Constitution actually applies: it differs from state to state. I believe that some states are as low as 16, most others are 18.

And it's 15 in Denmark 'cause there's not much else to do. (kidding...mostly)

As she only hired a stripper and not a hooker, I wouldn't see anything wrong with it - if she had only let her perform for her own son... Other people's kids are not within her range of making decisions, that's probably what caused all the trouble.

Yet, some naked skin or a boob has never hurt anyone - that's why I favor nudity over violence when it comes to television and movies ;)

While I understand what the mother was trying to do for the son, it doesn't take away from the fact that in most states, it's illegal for a minor to see a professional stripper. That's why they do ID checks at strip clubs, to enforce the law, this woman circumvented the law and should be punished accordingly.

Its fine and perfectly legal, it is illegal for an unwarrented search only if the people on which the search will include object to what is happening. If someone has willingly handed over illegal evidence it is up to their consious whether or not to contact any authority.
