Guys: Would you pick up "Feminine Hygeine Products" for your GF/Spouse?

The Downmarching Void
30-05-2005, 04:27
Yeah, so what this poll is about is this: Your wife or Girlfriend finds out you're heading to the Drugstore to get some razor blades and shaving cream. She asks you to pick up a box of her preferred "Feminine Hygeine" product. (Tampons, whathyamacallems, those things she needs, call em what you will)
You're going there anyway, so its a reasonable request, no?

Please include a reason why you voted as you did.

I know a lot of guys who would be way to uncomfortable or embarassed doing this for some reason. Personally, I have done it in the past, and will again, with no embarassment or unease. What, are people going think they're for me? NO! Always earns me brownie points too.

So, would ya?

Would and have. No big whup.

I also have plans to pick up some of the weirdest possible things they sell at a store I used to work at, with a lady friend of mine, including the metal handcuffs they sell in the toy aisle, and this plastic plunger handle that has a series of knobs for the grip....

Nope. Besides, she likes to go shopping, so she usually ends up picking them up for herself anyway.

Ehhm, where did the polle bit go

But my answer is: yes I would (and have done)

Why? It's only reasonable I pick them up if I'm going to the store anyways.

The older I get, the less I worry about it, although I still get a silly feeling when I put the KY in my cart.

Probably. No clerk in their right mind wouldn't think "He's buying them for his wife/ girlfriend/ mom".

As my mom has learned, this is not a wise idea in the first place.

She sent my dad out to pick up pads for her and he came back with the ultra thick, ultra long, small winged ones.

Good job, dad, you got yourself out of another set of errands to run.

Yes, and without embarassment
i am a custodian by trade so this is something i work with all the time, aside from that i find great humour in watching the big tough manly men freak out at the mention of pads and tampons.

Thats why I always ask for specifics. I want to be helpful, not earn a tongluelashing and inconvenient trip for me. It helps that I have excellent memory though.

Well, my mom got my dad to pick her some up at costco, they don't have the widest selection in such products to maybe she figured he couldn't go wrong and just told him the brand and then he just has the knack for picking up the wrong thing.

I've done it before. I've even had to pick up adult diapers for my mother when she was recovering from knee replacement surgery (because she couldn't always move fast enough to make it to the bathroom in time) and bought pads for my sister. It didn't bother me a bit.

And guys, if you're really worried about what other people would think, just make sure to pick up a package of huge steaks, some barbecue sauce and possibly a copy of Hustler. Then people will think that you're a *real* man and don't mind getting personal products for the females.

Either that, or people will think you have some REALLY weird fetish. ;)

I've bought tampons and yeast infection medicine for my girlfriend. It's not a big deal, I don't know the people that work at the drug store. No embarassment at all.
Flesh Eatin Zombies
30-05-2005, 07:16
My man's done that for me many times. There's really no reason for a guy to be embarrassed about that. I mean, what are they afraid of? That someone will think the tampons are for them? That the pads will somehow magically come to life and drain the blood from their bodies?

A man buying feminine hygiene products sends the message 'I have a girlfriend/spouse/partner I care about'. Surely that's something to be proud of!

I have done so and will do so without feeling the slightest thing. I mean, jesh, it's just cotton and if she's doing the period thing it's no biggie. It happens once a month for quite some time. Got to get used to that idea sooner or later. ;)

The older I get, the less I worry about it, although I still get a silly feeling when I put the KY in my cart.

I'm going to assume that you are male, and you have a girlfriend? Okay, this is going to sound sill and Naive:

What is the KY for? I know WHAT it's used for(I found a half-used tube in the Guy's bathroom at work; we promptly asked our supervisor, who is a 60 year old lady, what it was for, although we already knew), I'm just curious if there are alterior reasons for needing it(other than what is most commonly thought of).

Oh, and I don't really see the problem with shopping for feminine hygene products. It's not embarrassing in the least beat. If other guys make fun of me, it's just that they're not man enough to do for their girlfriends.

Wow, I'm pleasantly surprised by the number of guys who have no qualms about picking up a pack of tampons for the women in their life. IRL I encounter a lot of my fellow men who either refuse to do so or (most often) feel embarassed about it. Maybe its because there are more intelligent people here than I normally encounter IRL. Or they guys that embarassed, are embarassed to admit they're embarassed. Or something.

I still have no idea why any guy would be embarassed. Maybe they just feel uncomfortable dealing with the earthier and until recently more mysterious aspects of women. Menstruation was considered a filthy thing, never to be discussed, for thousands of years, so I guess some discomfort is understandable, even if it is ridiculous.

The only problem is if you forgot which kind exactly to bring home, or, even worse, they size ordered is nowhere to be found...

Then again, I'm mature enough to just walk up to the next lady and ask politely - that's better than to return home "empty handed"!

On a side note, there is the funny story/joke my wife told me...

This guy asks his wife to go out and buy him some cigarettes.... she comes back with papers and a can of tobacco... Telling him "it'll be cheaper if you just start rolling your own."

A few weeks later, she sends him out for some tampons. He comes back with some cotton wads, string and some cardboard tubes.... When confronted, he responds "Well, I just thought it would be cheaper if you started 'rolling your own'...

Sure there are less basicly masculine goods then feminine ones, but one hand washes the other,so let him pick them up,let me pick some of his things up too.

Been married long enough that if somebody thinks it's funny I just give them a "dang you're stupid" look and don't worry about it.

It used to really, really bother me when I was in High School and had to pick some up for my mom, though.

When we lived in Hong Kong I would be kinda embarrassed to buy condoms, mostly because the store clerks would always assume that since I'm buying condoms I must be some kind of pervert. The thought that I might be happily married just wouldn't cross the clerk's mind. So I'd usually try to buy them when my wife was with me so I could call across an aisle to her so the nosy clerks would know that yes, I really was married and not give me the evil eye. :headbang:

To the (currently) 7 defectives who actually answered "no":

I am hoping that was because you're a big fan of balance and just didn't want to see a poll where the "no" vote was zero.

'Cause if you can't be bothered to do something so incredibly simple for your lover, then you simply don't deserve one.

If anyone gave me a look or a snigger because I was in the checkout line with pads or 'pons, I'd look 'em square in the eye and tell 'em "picking these up means I'm getting laid tonight, junior -- so you just BUY your Mountain Dew and go back to Lara Croft, jackass." Or something similar.

Jesus Harold Christ on a Motherfucking Rubber Crutch, are there still little boys out there who can't do something this simple for their women? More importantly, why would a woman keep someone around who wouldn't?

Actually, yes I have, but that's not what going out to buy them ever meant for me -- she was running low and had enough for now and I was already going out. That's usually when it happened.

As for sex during menstruation, I can't attest to it being visually pleasing, but more than one woman has asked me (and asked in a manner that suggests they've been not just rejected but rebuked in the past for it), and I've gladly obliged. Both women told me it was somehow not so much a better sensation, but very different. Fine by me! A towel or two and away we'd go.

Lol, are there actually guys who are so wussy that they wouldn't pick up a box of tampons? How insecure do you have to be, to be embarassed by something that trivial? I'm not embarassed picking up razors or undies or "private-time" lube for a male partner, so why would a guy be embarassed to pick up something like a box of pads or tampons? More importantly, what woman would want to date a guy like that?

It's not a matter of maturity for me. I just don't see the products as offensive or embarassing. There is, as was mentioned by someone else, the extreme penalty for buying the wrong brand, size, scent (or lack of scent), etc., but that's easy to fix - I write it down.
