Some of you may already have discovered this little extension, while others have not. It gives Firefox the coveted ability to check your spelling.

It supports a multitude of languages (you download the dictionaries you need) and works on most of the major operating systems (Windows, MacOS X, Gnu/Linux, *BSD and so on).

So, try it! I don't know how I lived without it.

Caveat: If you install it in Linux, and it doesn't want to work, do this:

1. sudo -H firefox (or su if you'd rather do that)
2. [install extension and dictionaries]
3. restart firefox as root again, and then close it
4. start firefox as a normal user and install the extension, then close firefox
5. As root, go to /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/components/myspell
6. Change the properties of the dictionary files so that they can be read by all
7. Start firefox as your normal user. It should work now!

It's the little list of seven steps at the bottom that reinforces my opinion that Linux is crap. Other than that, nifty plugin.

Another great extension, especially for people who use forums, is BBCode (https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?application=firefox&category=Blogging&id=128).

It lets you automate the use of BBCode, HTML and XHTML by rightclicking. Very timesaving.

It's a trivial operation to fix the problem, which by the way seems to be distro dependant. Some distros have higher security settings than others and that can cause this problem, which is, as demonstrated, very easy to fix. So, it's actually a feature! :p

I have the Nuke Anything plugin, pretty nifty, lets you delete almost anything on any website.

Incidentally, anyone running Mac OS X on any browser can simply right-click/control-click, head down to spelling, and select "check spelling as you type". I do. Because I can't spell to save myself.

w00t. Great to know where these little doobywhackers are. I won't use it, as I'm practically a walking dictionary, but yeah. Great for those who do have trouble spelling.

This reminds me too - time to get a new skin for Firefox....
