How to find someone

I'm trying to locate an old freind I haven't been in touch with for over a decade. I don't know their old address or number anymore and don't even know if they're in the same state anymore. Anyone have any tips on finding someone that don't involve sending some web based company a credit card number? All I have is a full name and age to work with.
Depends on if stalking is considered legal or not in the mod's eyes...<_<...>_>

Ask their immediate family. Use a phone book or dial his/her old number.

Ask their immediate family. Use a phone book or dial his/her old number.Like I said, I don't have an old number. They have an unusual last name but no matches found in published numbers. If I could find any of their immediate family, I wouldn't be asking this question.
I know there's gotta be something in public records somewhere, I've clicked on one of those seach companies and they came up with 8 records, all of a person of the right age. But they just give you a teaser, no address or number until you send them money.

I recently tracked down an old friend after having lost contact with them 8 years. First thing you can do is find a free people search site. I used Canada 411 and some others. I didn't have much luck with that, you may fare better. I'm pretty sure a similar service is available for Australia. I tried email adress searches through hotmail, yahoo, and some others (they do list addresses of people on services other than their own. I didn't ucceed with that either, except to find an inactive address not used for awhile. Finally, I just typed his name into Google. PRESTO!
Hopefully one of the 3 I've mentioned will work for you. Keep in mind they may have moved off continent, which could make things tricky. Thankfully, if you can find their email, you'd still be able to get back in touch with, albeit not in person.
Good luck!
