hmmm funny..need i mention the old star trek animated series? oh the kzinti were great in that, 4 foot tall hunchbacks oh and instead of uhura some other cat alien and my favourite instead of space suits force fields nice yellow line though...the holo deck came from the old 1970's star trek cartoon...so yeah also i dont care what anyone says three words explain why star trek could never compare to star wars...Star Trek Voyager. I dont care if battle for endor wasnt that cool or if people didnt like phantom menace, the only good thing to come out of star trek in the last ten years has been nemesis and thats only cause they finally had a actual battle ship in it, ok maybe a space frigate but still scimitar was ok lol

Anyone have a spork to rid myself of my eyes? You see, the Bad Film Club that I'm in in college thought it would be nice to show this "Special" for Christmas this past year. And oh what a shining moment it was. So shining that I wish that I had a gun liscense to blow my brains out of the back of my head.
Im serious. I wanted to stub my eyes out and thrust hot pokers into my ears (especially during Jefferson Airplane--oh God--and Ms. Fischer's attempt at pleasing us with her voice). My friends volunteered to help me so long as I helped them in similar attempts for themselves. It was by far the worst bad film that we watched in that club, and made Manos, the Hands of Fate look like Oscar material.
As far as I'm concerned, I agree with Mr. Lucas in believing that this "Special" does not exist. And regardless of this that Lucas crapped from his brain, I still think that Star Wars is better than any Trek any day. :)

The aliens look like real aliens or humanoid type aliens,
star wars aliens look like animals, cartoon characters, etc, etc. Star Wars has to many special effects.
I hate all star war movies.

This may be the last msg you hear from me, as I am going to attempt the impossible:
I am downloading Star Wars Xmas Special and (after hiding all dangerous household items) will watch it tonight!
If you don't hear from me again, it's obvious that I beat myself to death with a teaspoon rather than sit through it.
Wish me luck, and a strong stomach.

and instead of uhura some other cat alien
Oh great, so they wrote out the only black woman in existance in the entire original series.
At least she sang better than princess Leia, and damn, was she hot. Uhura has always been the hottest Star Trek character for me, reguardless of what sex I myself happened to be at the time.
i tink that they r both shite. :gundge:

If I interpret that jumble correctly... you think Star Trek portrays aliens realistically? Were there any aliens at all in Star Trek that weren't merely humans with oddly adorned foreheads?

you think Star Trek portrays aliens realistically?
No matter what species they met, Kirk was always able to have sex with them. I don't know if that means the aliens were unrealistic or just that Kirk was especially inventive.

Yep, quite a lot of them. Though most of them were not really able to communicate. Just like starwars had its fair share of human shaped aliens (example: all the Jedis, including Yoda).

Nope. The real reason Star Trek is better than Star Wars is that it enables quick and easy identification of all ubergeeks possessing bad taste, facitlitating easy avoidance of them. If I'm at a party and I spot someone wearing anything to do with Star Trek, I avoid them like the plague. Anyone who buys into that godawful aesthetic needs to be quarantined. The man responsible for this hdieous creation (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/a/a7/Ocad.jpg) is definitely a Star Trek fan.

Nope. I'll be he was a Grateful Dead fan. Only someone chotzed out of the mind on psychadelics could come up with that atrocity.

People, people! Must we be forced to choose favourites among the children?
They are all moments of brilliance in a television programming schedule from hell. Even Voyager was so much better than no sci-fi at all. It had the holographic doctor, and B'Elanna, the only person to kill and eat her totem animal. (My joy at the concept of a female captain were shortlived however - how can she be worse than Kirk??)
Babylon 5 had vision and characterisation. And Ivonova. And the lizard guy - he was great.
Nothing can compare to Star Wars, but nothing can compare to Star Trek either.
But all those who missed Firefly only have until September (in the US) and November (in Australia) to get out there and watch the DVDs before the movie verison 'Serenity' comes out.
And I must extend my thanks to TheFreeState for posting this (painful, flashback causing) post. People were disbelieving me about the Special (George Lucas wouldn't do that!) and now I have the proof!

I still love you star trek, don't worry!

I have a Star Trek record, with radio-play type episodes of Star Trek. Its complete cheese, but the crowd always goes wild when I cut in and scratch it over top of techno or electro tunes during my DJ sets (ie:Buh/Buh/Bu/Bones, will he live? Nuh/nuh/nun/nu/hno/non/non/no He/heh hehehehehe/ he's dead jim, dead/dead/dead/dead Jim, dead Jim)
While I don't hate Star Trek, I think its cheese and fail to understand its near universal appeal. Then again, I'm a freak who prefers Anime over Star Trek or Star Wars.
I think that it should be noted that "Revenge of the Sith" is breaking box office and guiness book records while "Nemesis" got its ass kicked at the box office by the mediocre Jennifer Lopez romantic comedy "Maid in Manhattan." It's factual evidence that Star Wars is better.

I submit this to the fray:
Star Trek is clearly superior to Star Wars for one reason and one reason only: George Lucas. I rest my case. :D
That being said, there is far better scifi than either subset of drivel, but if Star Wars and Star Trek had not paved the way through the imbecility that is Hollywood, we would all still be stuck with only reading our scifi instead of watching it.
Not sure that it is completely a good thing, but there you have it anyway. :)
