Any Magic players?

I know some people will think this lame, but I am an avid Magic player and was wondering if anyone else here plays/used to play.

I'm an ex-player. Play VS-System nowadays - a lot more fun (I just got sick of Magic after ten years), and a bit cheaper as well.

Also played Decipher's Star Wars (great counting came) and the best, most atmospheric ccg ever before WotC took it over and ruined it (damn capitalists :p ): Legend of the Five Rings

I can't really say that I play Magic, because I keep confusing the rules and am probably the worst player ever... but I own over 1000 cards (I'd rather not think about the money...).
I also own some LOTR cards (fellowship of the ring) but I never managed to understand the rules...

I tried getting into L5R, but it was too complicated and whenever I played it it took about an hour to an hour and a half and it would always end in an arguement about which card to use during which phase. I wasn't having any fun so I stopped.

Magic is much simpler. You basicly read the card and that's what it does. You start out with 7 cards, play a land every turn, play what you can, and then draw a card.

I played quite a lot over the past few years, and a little when I was younger, but i've not really been playing since the block after Mirrodin (I can't for the life of me remember what it was called - Fifth Dawn?). That's probably something to do with being at uni, and not knowing anybody who plays here - I imagine i'll get back into it over summer.

I was attending college in Ellensburg, WA (only about 100 miles or so from where Magic was invented, Walla Walla) when Magic came out. It was the perfect game for college students with creativity but not a hell of a lot of money. We'd pool our resources and buy as many decks/boosters as we could, then craft one or two color decks, leaving more cards for the rest of us than we could afford to get alone (if I didn't need black, white or blue, I'd put those in the pool -- kinda like a draft).

Best part about it was we weren't cutthroat players. Sure, we wanted to win, but it was more about creativity and interesting decks than just bludgeoning each other silly like it has been now for the last six or seven years.

I just wish I'd kept some of my betas and square-edged, black bordered cards (I had a beta Personal Avatar that would be worth a bit to those who collect). The notion and play of card games is fun when played for fun. I drifted into Vampire: Jyhad and even the short-lived Star Trek: NG game for a while. Recently, I've dug up my old Illuminati: New World Order cards and On The Edge cards as well. The more creative and less popular games are usually my favorites.

So no, you're not lame. It's just another in a long series of games people play. One person's "lame" is another person's great time.
