I just got a letter through in the post about a scholarship programme offering 2 grand a year to medical students but because I dont need the money badly I feel that by trying to get the scholarship I would be stealing from those who need it more. What would you guys do? Try and get the money or just let someone else have it?

You did right, IMHO, if you didn't need the money. Kudos to you! :D

Purely selfish point of view: Take the money. Not only does it mean more cash in your pocket today, but it means perhaps one less doctor to compete for patients against in the future, so you can charge more.

My personal point of view: Don't take the money. Someone else may absolutely need it to pay for med school. It may make the difference between having a doctor where he's needed or not. Taking the money may endanger someone's life down the line.

Take the money and find another medical student that you know needs it and give it to them. Otherwise someone who needs it even less than you do may get it and just blow it.

Someones gotta do it, and trust me-you don't want that someone to be me. I'm perfectly happy leaving it in the hands of someone of your character.

I wouldn't accept it for two reasons:

1) In order to be altruistic and

2) I'm not a medical student and have no plans to be one. ;)
