Coming in 2006, the Bambi midquel (http://imdb.com/title/tt0447854/) is released. (I suspect straight to video, but to be honest I haven't looked that deep into it)

The new film is a 'midquel', the story taking place in the middle of the first Bambi movie.

I'm the last to limit someones narrative choices, and there are a limited number of cases where someone can do this which should limit the flurry that happened with the 'prequel,' but still...

Mostly this made me chuckle (and I was hoping by now I'd be able to come up with some sort of nightmare scenario, but I haven't...)

Are you ready?

EDIT: Now that I think about it, this isn't even the first time Disney has done this, is it? Isn't one of the Lion King movies a 'midquel'? Is this becoming a Disney signature?

Excellent! Who can wait for the midquel of "The Wiggles Movie" where they all smoke crack and get arrested for cutting a prostitute up into tiny bits and mailing him to senior government officials. ;)

It is your basic teenage angst tale, dealing with Bambi coping with his Father, the Great Prince, and his finding of a new mate while an orphaned Bambi comes to terms with his Mother's death.
I don't know how this qualifies as a 'basic' teen angst movie-starting off with Bambi being a deer (I guess it would cause some angst to be a dude named Bambi, but...) but then the parental death, while a well traveled road, it isn't a basic teen angst story. But that's not worth a new post-

It's that--isn't the original Bambi about Bambi coming to terms with his mother's death? I'll admit I could be wrong because I've never seen it (I've only seen Fantasia and The Jungle Book-weird kid, I know...) but damn...

Sounds to me like Disney took Mel Brooks seriously when he said in Spaceballs "God willing, we'll all meet again in Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money."
