After 50+ years, it appears the Japanese have given up the fight for the Philippines.

If they wish, the two will be issued clean 1940's issue uniforms and insignia and flown to Japan to surrender before the Emperor and the highest-ranking U.S. military officer available, same as those found decades after the war on other islands and territories.

A relief to anyone on NS visiting or living in Mindanao, to be sure! I'll be there most of the summer and fall, so it'll be good not having to worry about Japanese ambush. ;)

Hehehe!

That's pretty cool. I liked the part about them dressing the part and surrendering officially.

Be careful, there might be more out there.

I actually find it quite sad....technically, their bodies and minds have been at war for over 60 years, and have stayed that way for all these years, through the 40's, 50's, 60', 70's, 80's, 90's and 00's.

They went in the war as young boys, they came out as elderly men.

Their lives wasted.

That weighs heavy on the conscience, as should it for all of us.
