It's all fun and games until the hippo swallows you.

When I was small, I loved the friendly hippo. I thought he was cute, and funny.

Later on I learnt that hippos are actually the nastiest pieces of work out there.

seriously- that just made my day. i really don't think it could be true- wouldn't they need to chew quite a bit?

Have you ever seen how big a hippo gets?

They just let the hippo digest the poor bastard? No rescue attempt made? Sheesh. :P

I wonder what's the experience's like...being digested alive...

Must resist jokes about Dwarf passing to the other side...

Here there was a local TV show for children... they had first had experience about the dangers of Hippos.

One cameraman wanted a nice picture of a lazy hippo in the water... he hopped the fence and got some nice footage of a charging hippo... he lived (broken collarbone) the camera wasn't so lucky. It was deemed non-violent enough to be shown to the kiddies as a "lesson of the day"

the scene... a nice pond... the camera jumps as the cameraman hops the fence... then a large watery explosion and a brief shot of mama hippo bearing down on the camera... then snow...

yep... Hippos move fast... really fast... :D

No, I'm pretty sure it's true, but I think it's quite old. I remember reading about it in a legal studies. The circus owners would be liable both under civil and criminal legislation if it happened in Australia because a Hippo, no matter how tame and lacking in intent, is classified as a wild animal here. The owner of a wild animal is liable for any injuries it causes in all circumstances, even if not reasonably forseeable.

I'll bet he comes out the other end a little stinky but otherwise unharmed.

That's really interesting.
I'm just picturing the lists
"Hippo, is that a wild animal?"
"What are you on, man? This is AUSTRALIA. We don't have hippos"
"Yeah, but we'd better put it on the list just to be sure. What about anteaters, are they wild animals?"

Not quiet as entertaining as midget bowling, but better then elephantitis golf

The story about 42 midgets versus a Lion was funnier.
But this one's real, so perhaps a draw?

Apparently Hippos kill more people than lions in Africa.

Now if you had a story that read, "Dwarf Eats Hippo," THAT would be news! :D

The Checkers and Pogo show! I loved those guys...yes, I remember the hippo video. That was some of the scariest stuff I'd ever seen as a kid, especially when they replayed it in slow motion. *shudders*
