That's interesting stuff.

"Greet ye one another with a kiss of charity. Peace be with you all that are in Christ Jesus. Amen. (1Pet. 5:14)"

So, what say you, should we use this greeting?

EDIT: Fuck, my spelling in the poll question was atrocious. And I'm not even drunk or anything. Now I look like a complete idiot.
It was meant to say "Shall we use this greeting?"

Only if we get bottom fondling as well. I may even convert to christianity for that.

It is a greeting in some countries but I don't think it would work very well in the West if you walked up and kissed someone.

Goes with the times and customs.

People in the middle east still greet each other with a peck on the cheek even if it's guy and guy.

Jews and Muslims have been giving each other smooches in greeting for quite some time now. I imagine Christians should jump on the bandwagon.

Kisses = Good

Also, you can still affectionately greet your brother/sister even if your hands are full. :D

Yes, I'd happily agree to that. Anything that helps, however slightly, to reduce this whole tension we have around physical contact, is a good thing. And what better way than to greet with a kiss?

Couldn't load the page, can someone explain this to me? What kind of kissing…? French kissing is (probably) horrible. Is this peck kissing or what?

It's peck-on-the-cheek kissing.

And grr at Eserver's random inability to display the Bad Subjects pages.

And grr at Eserver's random inability to display the Bad Subjects pages. Hmm, I'm British, and we have very wide personal spaces and no body contact whatsoever. So no.

Spaniards always are doing that. I think Italians might too, but I am not sure. And then again sometimes when they kiss you it means they want to kill you. I don't know, Italians are soo confusing.

It's a European thing, and it carries over from the Middle Eastern tradition, from thousands of years ago. Who are most like the Middle Easterners/ Arabs? Italians and Spaniards. Spain was ruled for a while by the Moors, then co-ruled by Christian and Moor as they lived side by side. Italy has always been the gateway to the East, where do you think we got syhpillis from? (bad example, but it gets my demographic point across) I don't think Italians are so confusing, but then again, I am Italian, so... The kiss referred to in the Bible was a customary thing, brothers and sisters were even allowed to kiss mouths in public. American and British culture have a lot of personal space (British much more than American, but still), and this tradition would not go over well if adopted only by Christianity. As Christians, an appropriate comparison to the kiss of greeting would by a brotherly hug. The greeting is simply whatever your culture's sign of warm, friendly, intimate greeting is. Non-romantic at that. In Russia, there is little personal space between two people conversing (probably comes from trying to stay warm in the cold, LoL), and backing away from someone who is close to you is considered very rude. I bet the kiss of greeting would be easier to get used to in Russia. I say, we should use a greeting of similar meaning, but not necessarily a kiss. Even kisses on the cheek, but those are still considered very "European" in America.

I don't see a problem. I have friends from various places and it's fun to see what kind of greetings they use.

In my family (at least on my mother's side), regardless of whether or not you know the person, there is the double kiss; one per cheek, and a half hug.

I saw this show, where these two african people, when they meet, they pull each others twang.

African tribespeople I assume? Unless you mean like on the streets of Atlanta, cause that would be hilarious and highly disturbing all at once.

I do not understand the point of this thread.

People in some countries consider it abnormal to greet eachother with a kiss, and even horrified by the concept of two men kising eachother on the cheek (omg ! They must be GAY !).

The article points out that greeting eachother with a kiss is the Christian thing to do.

I'm a Christian, but I'm not a touchy feely person. Unless we're sleeping together or you're paying me, the less touching the better I say, and that includes greeting kisses. :fluffle:

Even though I live in Europe, and in some places here a peck on the cheek as a greeting is customary, a manly handshake is plenty enough for me, thank you very much.

Who said that's a manly thing to do? Only your conceptions did. The Japanese wouldn't consider a handshake "manly" at all.

What's so good about a "manly" greeting anyway? Over-rated, in my opinion.

(and I wasn't suggesting that you were Japanese, but rather that there is nothing intrinsically manly about a handshake. (avoids the loose faux-freudian comparison I nearly posted) )

If a woman wants to peck me on the cheek, I'm fine with that. I shall even reciprocate. If a man does, then I'd be embarrased yet not angry. I wouldn't reciprocate, however, nor will I initiate the guy kissing. I have nothing wrong with a "hug-and-pat" technique, as demonstrated in Jerry McGuire, nor do I object to bows or handshakes.
