Can you get much lower than stealing from the graves of war veterans?

A guy stole bronze flag holders from the graves of hundreds of war veterans. What a scumbag. He should be forcibly deported to Iraq with a T-shirt that says "Flush Islam" or something.

I guess robbing disabled persons (as happend here in Oldenburg) is a lot worse.

Speaking of robbing old/disabled people, someone in my town tried to rob an old woman outside a grocery store. The woman resisted, and one of the robbers hit her, causing her to fall and hit her head. She later died in the hospital.

I guess you could argue that, since they are flag holders on GRAVES, the chances are that the veteran in question probably wouldn't mind too much...

Maybe his family does. Maybe people like me who appreciate the veteran's sacrifices mind. It's an affront to the memory of the heros who fought for our nation.

There is worse. Like Russians or Polish cracking open graves of Wehrmacht members, looting what is left. They sell those items to "reenactors" in the Us or similar war nerd scum.

Saddening. Really.

In my opinion, if you dont want something stolden, dont leave it out. Besides, they should have been cremated.

Or maybe, it's an insult to the memory of the veteran to believe that a piece of metal can make up for all they gave and lost.

Dead is dead.

It's funny that people will whine about the desecration of veteran graves, but are blind to the reduction of medical assistance (for example) to the veterans who have (apparently) not been lucky enough to die yet.

Maybe as a German I do not really understand Americans.
Here veteran soldiers are mostly men who fought for Hitler. I do not appreciate this.

That's because Germany hasn't invaded anyone lately. Germany is overdue, really. A good war of agression is great for patriotism. Just invade one of those "axis of evil" guys. They're too small to fight back but no one will care.

We're not blind to it. I wrote my senators, congressman, and even the president over the proposed cuts.

Thats pretty low. Probably an addict ensuring he has cash for his next fix. Morals go out the window in that case.

Just a note: There's a mistake in the article. The flower holders are described as Bronze, yet they give a quote for the current price of Brass Two different things. Bronze currently goes for around $7 per pound. A heck of a lot more than brass. My main job is a Patineur. Meaning: I put the patina on Bronze sculptures, restore the patina on old one (ie: Vetrans Memorials). Idiot reporter probably can't tie his own shoelaces....doesn't know the diff betwenn brass and bronze...mutter mutter...

Yes, you can get lower. You can go around claiming you're a veteran (or even prior service in peacetime) when you're not.

Claiming you've got medals you never won.

Claiming you're in a specialty you've never served in.

This happens so often, its a disgrace. It'd be nice to hear someone posing as an old woman turned out to be a young, robust man that hit the thieve's head on the sidewalk till he died. And then emptied his pockets.

This is rampant these days. Fraud in general is a whole billion dollar industry. When has a day passed that you havent heard a news story about someone being caught in some scheme? Every freaking day-ID theft, credit card fraud, phishing-If these scumbags put the same effort and determination into legal activities, they might be doing alright.

What I hate is people who have a left-wing agenda who claim prior service who never served in the "high speed low drag" outfits they claim to have served in.

Then they wave that "service" as a banner to support what they're saying - when they have no idea that a) there's a way to check, and b) there are people out there who recognize when they have no idea what they're talking about, and c) that it's an insult to the people who actually have served.

How about someone who serves in the National Guard but then decides to quit when impending war is coming? But then, uses fraud and fabricates documents to "prove" otherwise. Neither of these two types of "people"(I'm 90% sure I know who you're talking about, and I'm sure you can figure who I am talking about) are as couragious as they'd like us to think. Yellow-bellied cowards who think we are impressed by pieces of paper.

THis issue is similar, but not nearly as crucial as the grave robbers of the Pyramids of Egypt. They are famous, and hated by historians worldwide for desecrating the graves of pharos.

Guess what? If all the gold inside the pyramids STAYED inside the pyramids, the Egyptian economy would have collapsed in no time.

The veterans are DEAD. Don't "honor" them with a piece of copper. Honor them by appreciating their sacrifices, honor them by doing community service, honor them by fighting the poverty that leads so many to steal. Honor them. Do not patronize them.

This isnt on par with Egyptian gold. While I agree with honoring veterans and our society that they fought for through community service, etc... poverty often promotes hard work, not just stealing. Thieves arent always poor, but they are almost always stupid.
