Yes, improbable as it is, Liverpool have triumphed over A.C. Milan to claim their fifth European Cup. After A.C. dominated the first half (3-0), even the most optimistic Liverpool fan would have been hard pressed to find a way back. But 7 minutes of brilliance put paid to that! The shoot-out was always somewhat of a foregone conclusion (ever heard of destiny?), and the scouse came through with flying colours! Congratulations Liverpool on winning the '04/05 Champioins League!
Liverpool's amazing victory has also opened a can of worms with the English F.A. writing a letter to U.E.F.A. asking for Liverpool to defend the title. I personally feel that whilst Liverpool deserve to defend their title, Everton have tried so valiantly all season and to be denied would be a cruel blow. What are your thoughts on this amazing turn of events?
Well they may have won the Champions League and well done to them, but they weren't even good enough to finish in the top four in England. I think thats says it all. No way should Everton lose out.

Liverpool's amazing victory has also opened a can of worms with the English F.A. writing a letter to U.E.F.A. asking for Liverpool to defend the title.
According to the BBC and the UEFA spokesman, the F.A. have said that Liverpool will not be put forward for the CL spot next year.
"We can't change them in the middle of the season. The FA has said Everton are the fourth English club to qualify."

personally i believe that both dudeks saves in the penalty shoot out should have not counted. The penalty's should have been retaken as he came miles off the line and so he was able to save penaltys he wouldnt have if hed stayed on the line like he should. Saying that im glad they did win but i dont think they should be allowed to take evertons place, they should boot isreal out of it.

Let's see: Champion's League winners, or fourth in the Premiership? Hmmm...
Seriously, excellent though Everton's achievement was, it shouldn't merit a place in the Champion's League. Christ, Arsenal and Man U shouldn't be in either; I thought this was a tournament for champions?

Well if the lines man and the ref didn't call it its pretty tough, although i agree the first one was about a yard off his line, but that said, it wasn't a good penalty and if he had chosent he same way i think he would have saved it. Milans penalty takers were shocking.
Kudos to Djibriel Cisse though, after breaking his leg in two places last September, and being told he might not play again, he scored a penalty to complete an amazing comeback.

yes, top 4 teams in each country go into it. Liverpool wn the final but their premeriship performance was pretty poor.

Aye but then the referee had to make a few concessions to his second half bias (I missed the first half but also heard that Crespo should have been given offside for one of his). Did any decisions go liverpools way in the second half. Gattuso, as last man, trips Gerrard in the area. Escapes without a booking? etc etc
No one stays on the line for penalties anymore. It's like speeding. As long as you're not over the limit by a ridiculous amount, no one cares. Anyway, you know it was the wobbly legs trick that mattered

true they did put them off, but still. He was clearly off the line, in a penalty that means alot becuase the goal keeper then has alot less to move in order to save a goal and most keepers so manage to stay on the line. Lehmann did, Alumnia does and he saved more then dudek in the shotout he was in

ooh, now you're just being Height-Discriminatory. I propose a sliding scale of goalkeeper positioning and goal size in the case of penalties, based on height and ability respectively. I also propose that competitions be downgraded slightly so no one feels like they have lost as this may promote bad feeling and aggression

I'm sure it caused some problems for Milans to focus...It shouldn't on that level but it still does.
btw that's my method if I ever play football. Screaming, running straight at someone and waving hands rapidly is the only way I can get the ball from someone :D

Given that someone (can't recall name) lay down in front of Garcia and waved his arms to stop the shot just before the second goal and the bearded guy shoved Gerrard for the penalty Milan could (read bloody well should) have been on 9 men.

Yeah, I see your point, but the officials didn't see it, and its in the past anyway. Anyhow, Serginho missed, and Sheva hit his spot kick straight at Dudek, so even though his save from Pirlo shouldn't have counted, all Gerrard needed to do was slot home one more penalty and Liverpool would have won anyway.

Why should they boot Israel out of it. Israel is a UEFA just like any other country in Greater Europe (yeh its really in Asia but Israel is discriminated against but so is turkey) so if we should boot israel out of it lets also boot out england, scotland, wales, ireland, iceland, turkey, and the eastern part of russia because they are not on the continent of Europe either they are either on islands off the coast or in asia.

I find this conversation silly. I'm going to divert it back on track.
It now seems that Liverpool (and Everton, for that matter) are going to have to wait 3 more weeks to find out whether they can defend their CL title. There will be lots of anxiety in Merseyside, I can tell you that.

Real Madrid got in few seasons back, though they won the Champions League and got 5th in their league.
I don't see any reason why Liverpool shouldn't either. Just let them in. Everton and Manyoo is going to have their playoffs for a spot anyway and any can lose.
Who knows, all 5 British clubs might be in, wouldn't that be great?
If the numbers ain't equal, then bring in another team from some another league, like maybe the 3rd place team from France (for example) to playoff versus LIverpool for a qualifying place.
It's all down to FA. Not UEFA. Me thinks FA has something against Liverpool. Just sourgrapes or something.
