The dark, amused part of my psyche is wondering: Did they get it on tape?

The light, good-natured part of my psyche is laughing it's balls off. :)

That sounds like a good idea! I bet those people just didn't get it quite right...Or maybe they were too accurate?

What retards. They must be true nerds. If you absolutly have to fight with sword-like objects, make some wooden swords. I can't believe people are that stupid, but I guess you learn something new everyday.

Clearly they're retarded...I mean yes I want to builod a lightsaber too...but filling it with fuel...somewhere George Lucas is shaking his head...

Thats amazing, especially after my physics teacher explained to me that actual lightsabers are a physical impossibility.

I'm not convinced of that. But there is a couple of serious details to work out. *nod*

it has something to do with managing the power output and building a casing that can extend a beam of pure energy a set distance without distentigrating the handle piece.

what kinds of jackasses would do something like that.

So can someone explain to me how filling a fluorescent tube with gasoline makes for a more cinematic looking lightsaber?

Yes, that's what they said about powered flight too. But two bicycle mechanics with an asshatted dream, too much time on their hands, a really big kite and a lawnmower engine proved them wrong.

So were breaking the sound barrier and splitting the atom.

Everything is impossible until humans figure out how to do it.

You'd be amazed at how many idiots are going to want to try that now.
They may not get the attention this story got, but believe me it will happen again.

The explosion looks cool like something you'd see in a big blockbester where the tanker truck carrying all the gasoline gets shot and goes KABOOM!!1!1one :D :D

Stupidity sadly never dies out, I think they got what they deserved. If you're stupid enough to pull this, well, once it blows up it's your own damn fault.

Technically they could sue Lucas though... like the woman who tried to dry her dog in a microwave...

Well, maybe they got confused with how the fake luminous sabers work?
They fill them with a gas and project light through it. It looks super pretty but they're really fragile. Maybe these guys just missed the mark a little?

why would your physics teacher have to teach you that. just open up a dictionary and look up fiction. thats why they call it science FICTION.

its a different galaxy, its perfectly reasonable to believe that there are compounds that dont exist in our galaxy which can withstand the energy.

I was talking about making it in our universe. The design defies the laws of physics.

A lot of technology originating in science fiction has or probably will soon become a reality.

On the other hand, you can say that humans will 'figure out a way' all you want, but I'd love to see a perpetual motion machine or a time machine or a spaceship that can go faster then light.

Two words Chaos Theory. Your physics teacher will probably hate that concept along w/ every other left brainer. Once again that is why philosophy should be mandatory in schools. :sniper:

"Police think they had been filming themselves at the time."

If so, we'll see it on the net sometime.

If these two die, they're a shoe-in for the darwin awards.

Actually, I would settle for outlawing stupidity. But there doesn't seem to be a tangible way of going about it. Perhaps mass genetic tailoring?

Naaah, stupid is like roaches. It would find a way of surviving somehow, somewhere.

Stupidity is actually a survival trait in an age where stress can kill you.

Humanity will not go extinct... it will just go retarded.

Kind of like curiosity can be dangerous, so perhaps we'll lose that trait?

But it does not defy the laws of psychics. Remember that the force is what extends the beam. It's not simply mechanical.

The design as cited defies the laws of physics, but the sword itself is not mechanically impossible. See the other thread. (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?p=8961892#post8961892)

First of all, I feel like the biggest geek in the world for knowing this. It uses a crystal that focuses the force into a light beam that is made up of and controlled by the force. The rest is pointless because people are speculating on the energy involved in making the beam. Since we don't have the force or know anything about controlling it, how does one pretend to know what it takes to make the rest of the housing or how much energy is involved. We are attempting to take something that doesn't EXIST and apply it to our universe. Is it physically possible for you to have children with a wookie?
