Yes, folks, the creator of the famous Sim's series(Sim City, The Sims, etc) is creating a new game! Spore! (http://spore.ea.com/)

Is it just me, or does this game look cool? Of course, certain anti-evolutionist people may go "BLASPHEMYYY!! HERETIC! DIE DIE DIE!", but by the looks of it it's going to be great.

Because I have, and the game looks shweeeeeeeeet. I mean, you get to go from a tiny microbe to a galaxy-spanning civilization.

Oh, yeah, post your comments on the pictures, the demo, etc.

Though the game looks really cool, there are a couple problems I see with it. First is performance issues. This thing looks really system-intensive. Secondly, with so much to cover, it seems that each individual section won't be very detailed. For instance, the city building mode probably won't have detailed unit building or building construction.

Otherwise, it looks great.

Wow, that's an instant classic for sure. It does look kind of system intensive, but that won't be a problem for me personally.

So this will actually be similar to online games like Everquest in that you'll have players with you in an ecosystem competing against each other? Which means that I'll be able to hunt down and eat other players?

I think as usual, Will Wright is on the cutting edge and showing what tomorrow's games will be like. This is one step closer, at least, to the PERFECT GAME... the one that includes within it, all good games. The everything game. VR. The game everyone has always secretly been waiting for, but no one dares to really try. I don't think this in particular will be that game... though it'll be damn close if it works.

To all those thinking if it will be an Online game.

No, however if you are connected to the internet, other peoples planets, creatures, etc will be downloaded to your game. So while you wont be competing against the person who made that planet, you will be able to take over a copy of his planet.

And the files aren't really that big(about 5 megs at most).

wow, what a coincidence to see this thread... I'm at the moment watching the video of Will Wright's demonstration (http://www.pqhp.com/cmp/gdctv/) of Spore during the Gaming Developer's Conference - for the third time :p

Spore is the idea for a game I bet pretty much everyone has come up with at one time or another, but it'd have to be Will Wright who actually had the guts to go ahead and do it. I'm not sure I've ever looked forward to a game more than this. Just looking at the diversity of designs the editor can come up with, it's amazing... *goes back to gawking at demo*
