My buddy Will is terrified of snakes. One day we were closing a swimming pool (we both used to work for a pool comany) and we found a couple of snakes hiding in the pool cover. Will ran away screaming and refused to come back into the yard until I'd gotten rid of the snakes.

I like snakes more than spiders. Snakes usually hide when they know you are near and will usually only bite if you are annoying them. I have never seen a snake chase people. I have seen a spider chase people. Large, Sydney Funnel Web spiders who's venom is very potent on primates (ie humans) but relatively ineffective against other mammals.

WTF is an "earwig?"

I can honestly say that about the only living thing I don't like are crocodiles. For some strange reason, I just have an extreme aversion to them. Well ... perhaps my ex too, but that's another thread. :D

Spiders, wasps and my chemistry teacher. He's an gross insect too.

Not scared of snakes, but the other night I did have this dream that I was holding a snake, and fo some reason I spun it round and threw it and then fell over, landing on it, and it bit the back of my head. Then I woke up and I could have SWORN there was a snake in my room. Turned out to be a belt...

Bugs of the parasite variety. *twitches* Gaaah. It's REALLY hard to disturb me, but that'll get a good twitch from me.

I answered spiders and I'd like to specify that I meant small spiders. Big ones are ok. Cockroaches are another form of bug that I just can't stand, even less than spiders, perhaps.

Snakes, on the other hand, I love.

For some reason, I forgot before I moved here to the beach that there are frackin' Palmetto Bugs here.

If you don't know what one is, think of a regular cockroach that's found in a lot of USA homes, but about 3 times as big. And they get all in your apartment too. They are technically cockroaches, but are mainly found in the southeast US.

BTW, does anyone get freaked by that segment of "Creepshow" with the cockroaches?

None of them
But I'm quite sure that if I'd move to let's say Australia, I'd be terrified of both snakes and spiders.

Our snakes and spiders are sad excuses of their kind. We don't even have cockroachers. (i'm pretty used to those anyway, they don't bother me)

I actually like both spiders and snakes. I would much rather have them in and around the house than hordes of rats or mosquitos/flies (Which they kill off respectively)

What we have here that are problems are roaches (Large ones) but they are kept under control by the lizards and bats.

Domestic wildlife is fun in Brazil.

Spiders bug me because they can get in your hair. On the other hand, I ADORE snakes. Large anacondas and pythons, etc. (If they're in your hair, you know it!) Plus they're sweet. Even the little ones can really squeeze and cut off your circulation. I found that out when playing with a friend's. It wrapped around my arm and started to squeeze and it was SMALL. I still love them.

And bats. If you live where I do, bats are a God send. Anything that eats loads of mosquitos is welcome here! I have a bat house that I have yet to put up. I need to get to that...

snakes are harmless unles you step on one or go out of your way to piss off one

spiders are terrified of people and will not bother you unless you leave it no choice.

because I know that their treatment of me depends almost entirely on my treatment of them, I said neither of the above.

Spiders stay pretty much in one spot... actually aren't bad to have around the house as they trap and kill more harmful/bothersome insects.

Asian Beetles are heinous and numerous around here, and they BITE. They look like orange ladybugs but a little larger. They were imported to get rid of some other bug attacking crops and now you have to carry around a can of extra strength raid just to walk outside for 2 minutes..

Try telling that to the large Southern House Spider, which looks unpleasantly like a Brown Recluse and has bad eyesight so it thinks your foot is an insect.

A Python story:

I guy I graduated from high school with, (Bart Starr's son, if any of you know who he was... Super Bowl I anyone?), OD'd on coke and died in his apartment in FL. He always had snakes since he was a kid, and his Python had him partially eaten/swallowed a week later when they found his body. ewww...

But I still like snakes...

I've been bit by a snake, spider, bee and wasp (more than once, snake only once)
Those snakes and spiders are not that poisonous. The snake (some small adder) can cause serious problems to some but I don't know why not to me. I'm usually pretty allergic to all kind of bites and stings. The last time wasps stinged me (twice) I got very high fever and my arm swallowed enormously.

snakes dont bother me. They are outside where they belong and I know how to deal with them.

I dont like spiders. They dont "freak me out"-I just kill them. They dont eat enough insects to justify living in my house. If I find them, they're dead.
I met a really big hairy tarantula out in Arizona last year. I left him alone. He belonged where he was. And I didnt have anything big enough to smash him with anyway. No-stepping on him would have been like stepping on a squirrell. He was big and fast.

I don't mind snakes... then again living in Britain I haven't had an opportunity to fear them... the only fear I'd have of a snake would be say a mamba, but that's rational. Spiders... I don't really mind spiders, but I don't like them too close to me, so if there's one in my room at night, I put it outside. Some insects annoy me, but not much more than that... I really don't like the ones that fly into you and then attempt to fly through you. I don't actually fear them per se.

Hell yes! Those damned things annoy me to no end. Especially Yellow Jackets, but are those wasps or bees? They attack without provocation.

BTW, is it just me, or are there more hornets around now than there were 5 years ago? I used to see like none, now it's like 1 a day. And those things HURT!

Is there both hornets and giant hornets? Or are those just different names for the same thing?
