Ok, in 7 and 3/4 hours the biggest football game of the year will kick off. It's Liverpool playing AC Milan in Istanbul.

Betting odds favour Milan, but after putting both Juventus and previous favourites Chelsea out of the competition, Liverpool are in with a shout of winning their 5th European title.

Liverpool team, 4-4-1-1 (rumoured)

Dudek, Traore, Hyypiä, Carragher, Finnan, Riise, Gerrard, Alonso, Garcia, Kewell, Cisse

AC Milan, 4-4-2 (rumoured)

Dida, Maldini, Nesta, Stam, Cafu, Gattuso, Kaka, Pirlo, Seedorf, Schevchenko, Crespo

So who do you think is going to win and become Champions of Europe?

EDIT: Yeah yeah, i spelt the names wrong, but I got a :fluffle: from a Finn and nothing from the moaning Dutch :p

You see I don't know who to support. Despite the fact I am a Brit and would love it if Liverpool could win, I have been a fan of AC Milan since i was a kid watching Marco Vam Basten (i.e. God of all strikers) et al on Football Italia n the early 90's.

Argh choices choices!!! :D

What's the odds around there? Oh, yes, you're not in England...

Milan - Liverpool 1,85 2,95 3,90
Milan - Liverpool (+1) 3,75 3,55 1,70
Milan-Liverpool halftime 2,40 1,95 4,80
Milan-Liverpool first goal
1=Milan, X=no goal 2=Liverpool
1,60 7,00 2,70

IMO these favour Milan too much.

Liverpool are definitely going to win because they have saved their best form for the Champions League. Could not do anything in the league this year and won't be back in the Champions League next year so its do or die for them and I think that they will do it and not die this close to winning

I'm up for Liverpool this evening, great fans, English team, and of course there was that magical defeat at Anfield back in '95 when our loss didn't matter because West Ham keeper Ludek Miklosko had put in the best game of his career against Man U and became an Ewood legend. The Liverpool fans were just as happy as we were. Happy days, happy days.......

I don't think they'll win though :( , AC Milan will put on a defensive masterclass as the Italians always do and then get a sneaky goal in the last ten minutes. I really hope I'm wrong though.

Then I guess they should have sent Chelski's goalkeeper Cech off playing vs Liverpool down 10 men and a penalty to boot. It was fairplay. Give Liverpool the goal, and keep playing 11 men. Chelsea had the class to score, but didn't. Too bad.

And for the Champions League, their defence and form has been totally rock solid. Letting in only something like 6 goals in the whole competition. They played very well throughout the Champions League. Not for the Premiership though.

Well if Cisse hits form and has some decent through balls from alonso and gerrard, he can out pace the milan defence no problem, thing is, Scheva can do the same to the liverpool defence too.

Its a tough call.

Milan are totally outclassing Liverpool... it's 3-0 for the Rossoneri at the break.

Milan are showing why they're the best team in Europe.

lol

Liverpool had been playing incredibly well in beating favored Juventus and Chelsea... they seem to have fallen back down to earth, and Milan are on their way to claiming their 7th Champions League title.

Now the question is, will Milan continue attacking and push for 5, 6 goals... or will they play Italian soccer and stick all 10 players in the defensive end and play keep away.

For me, its got to be Dudek. That double save and the Grobelaar "wobbly legs" technique for the penalties. Good stuff. OK, he's no Lev Yashin and has displayed some really, really dodgy keeping in the past but he was magic last night. Almost as good as Brad Friedel. :D

Like i said earlier. A tank could have ran over him and he stil lcontinued..

I mean.. he hurt his groin. He got treated by the physio. Limped out on the field (coz liverpool werent allowed to sub anymore players) and the first thing he did was a 'groin-killing' tankle.. He was everywhere in the defence!
(thou Gerrard was very good too, but too invisible in the first half to be the MoM)

Yeah, but carragher and hyypia got run ragged by kaka and crespo and scheva so...its kinda even

But those three, Gerrard, Dudek and Carragher...sheer class.

Oh and just as an addition, this is the best quote i have found from newspapers:

'Milan suicide, Liverpool triumph'

One usually has to work hard for victories. Milan, instead, worked hard for a bitter defeat.

Gerrard raised the cup, they did not steal it. It seemed they lost it, they won it. Honour to them.

The fact that Dudek and Smicer are candidates for man of the match shows just how strange the game was... Alonso, Gerrard, Carragher and Hyppia were all awesome from the second half onwards, Baros worked really hard and was fine, Hamann's cool head was important when he came on. Traore was truly shocking, match-saving goal-line save excepted. They should have played Stephen Warnock instead (cue confused looks all round).

Hamann was excellent, and i agree with Stephen Warnock, we had him on loan at Bradford a couple of seasons back, he can't take corners, but he is a very very decent player.

now that its all over, we can see that Liverpool won it, though you certainly did not deserve to. AC Milan were all over you during the first half and really were stupid for giving away a 3-0 lead. It truly seems that there is nothing that a Scouser cannot nick. Having said that, I did like the almost acrobatic display by the Scouse goalkeeper during the penalty shoot-out.

Oh come one, Milan crumbled in the 2nd half. Agreed they wiped the floor in the first half but after the 1st goal went in, they collapsed.

Once Hamann was on, liverpool were a different team, garcia managed to pass to milan baros and not milan (i swear he was confused as to the difference between the two in the 1st half), gerrard did his captain fantastic thing and dudek was sheer class ( )

Reminds me of the Man Utd vs Spurs game. Spurs up 3-0 at half-time and lost it 5-3 in the end.

Bloody Welsh FA - the T(otal)N(etwork)S(olutions) chairman had offered Liverpool a play-off for their Champions League spot. As champions of Wales (what an achievement), TNS get into the first qualifying round of the CL. Now look - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/league_of_wales/4582621.stm

However AC Milan differ chiefly from Spurs by being, you know, good. :D

Well, you know what they say about Spurs fans, "at least they're not Arsenal fans".

Although the Gills are my main team (ever since I was old enough to appreciate that you should support your local side), I've been a Coventry fan for longer (what can I say, I liked their name and kit when I was 6 - we won the FA cup in my first season as a fan - all downhill since...). He was brilliant for us the season before last. Then he went, we sacked Eric Black (for the love of God, WHY?), appointed Peter Reid (ditto), didn't replace Warnock, sent our best player (Gary McSheffrey) out on loan and went to pieces in spectacular fashion.

There was a point this season when I though BOTH of my teams would go down...

Didn't Coventry have Richie Partridge at one point too? He is meant to be pretty good.

I chose my team(s) by my family, half come from Bradford and the other come from the Blue half of merseyside, so i had a pretty good season :D

I hate that. I really, really wish that I could be a glory hunter, or even one of those people who doesn't care about football and begins to support a team on the basis of one player or something, but no, the understanding of the importance of supporting your local team has cursed me for all eternity, left me with the burden of being a Rovers fan.

I have to go through life suffering constant flashbacks to our most dire moments. Whilst many fans often design their best all-time team based on the players they've had throughout history, as a Rovers fan I feel compelled to design the worst ever team. Its pretty easy until you get to picking the strikers, we've had far too many dodgy strikers to decide - Dahlin, Ostenstad, Ward, Blake, Kevin fucking Davies... How do you pick the worst two from that list?

I curse the obligation you have to your home team and have spent many a night crying myself to sleep, remembering when Le Saux and Batty had a fight, the signing of Amorouso or the nightmare that was Trelleborgs.

I can sympathise as a Bradford fan. Ashley Bloody Ward. The Tan.

He was one of the best controllers of the ball with his chest, unfortunately then its came to his feet and his cocks it up. Always. and he was on about 30k a week. such a goddam waste.

Kellarly - Partridge was very good for us, but he seems to have set a precedent whereby Cov only play good Liverpool loanees or woefully out-of-position strikers on the left wing (some of whom are terrible even when they're in-position: hello, Trevor Benjamin!).

Taz - I feel your pain. The odd thing is that most of the players you listed (Ward excepted) have been very good at different points of their career. Just not at Blackburn. Still, at least you've finally got rid of Craig Short...

Ah, journeyman footballer Ashley Ward. He was one of the best controllers with his hands too. I can vaguely remember a game back in 2000 I think during a match against West Brom when he caught the ball, dropped it and booted it in and nobody noticed this flagrant disregard for the rules. We were all stood around wating for it to be disallowed and it never happened. I still have a "WTF?!" feeling about it even now.

And then you bought him. This inspires an even bigger "WTF?!" feeling. :D

Apparently, over the course of his career, foolish football teams have paid a total of £8,460,000 in transfer fees for having the "privelege" of his play.

Yeah, precisely. He played one good game for us, against Rotherham where we won 4-2.

We then farmed him off to Sheff Utd, but still proceeded to pay half his wages.

Such a waste, that said with the wonder that was Geoffery Richmond we kinda did the big time of buying shite players.

David James - great keeper, then all of a sudden he thinks he's the English Chilavert and uses the oft-criticsed "erratic" goalkeeping techniue. All those England matches where the cry "What's he doing?!" echo around the stadium...
