Music!

There's so many serious topics out there (abortion, religion, etc.), I thought I'd post some fun crap that no one'd fight over.

Just a few questions:

1. What are you listening to right now?

2. What type of music do you typically like and dislike?

3. Mood?

My answers:

1. I'm listening to Stigmata, by Ministry.

2. I like lotsa stuff.
I mostly like darkwave, EBM, industrial, black/gothic/death metal, and classical.

I sometimes like indie, synth-pop, and grunge.

I almost never like rap or country.

How about you? :)

1. What are you listening to right now? A vinyl rip of Singles Going Steady by the Buzzcocks.

2. What type of music do you typically like and dislike? I'm really into classic Punk Rock, and I absolutely despise Country-Western and Christian music.

3. Mood? Honestly? I'm quite pissed (that's an alternate word for mad, for you Australian types :p).

There was one of these a few days ago, but whatever.

1. What are you listening to right now?
Opeth - Patterns in the Ivy II

2. What type of music do you typically like and dislike?
Like: metal of all types (though not too fond of power metal), classic rock, prog rock, industrial, folk, some funk/blues rock. Dislike: rap, majority of punk, country, pop, hip-hop, soft rock.

3. Mood?
I don't feel much right now. Bland?

I'm not a huge punk fan, either.

As a genre, it just generally bores me.

1. What are you listening to right now? Speedy J, LIVE @ I Love Techno 2000. Blistering techno, nice n' hard.

2. What type of music do you typically love and hate? I love Electronic Music, mostly Techno, Electro, DnB. Luke Slater, early Underground Resistance, Doc Scott, Anthony Rother. Also LOVE Skinny Puppy (except their last one...shudder)

I also enjoy stuff like The Melvins, The Stooges, Kyuss, Jethro Tull, Crass.. all kinds of stuff. Lately I've been loving Belle & Sebastien, listening to them quite a bit.

I'm quite open minded (eared?) musicly, but I really hate New Country, "Christian" Music (if you need religion to sell your records, your music must suck, if you listen to music based only on religious pretences, your brain doesn't belong to you), most RnB and most contemporary Hip-Hop. (Hip Hop is supposed to have a good beat, not some crap you can only nod your head to once a minute) Outkast, Cannibal Ox and J5 are notable exceptions

3. Mood? Pretty good actually. Its 11PM here, the begining of that time during the dya when I'm at my best in terms of energy, focus and creativity. Sittin in my studio, got the red light turned on, about to make some tunes...or maybe work on a demo tape for a radio. Life is good.

EDIT: Had to change Like/Dislike to Love/Hate. I'm a musician. I do have in-between feelings about kinds of music, but anything that really gets me going, for better or worse, is a Love or Hate thing.

Also LOVE Skinny Puppy (except their last one...shudder)Though certainly not up to par with their earlier stuff (I like Last Rights myself), it's still a good industrial album. Reminds me vaguely of KMFDM and newer Ministry.

Then you're probably listening to the mainstream stuff... The fake stuff. Not really. I've heard both mainstream and the good stuff (though my exposure is obviously to the more mainstream stuff), and though some of it's alright, it's too simple for me. Some people like the rawness of the music, the lyrics (where there are good ones), etc., but I prefer more complex arrangements and a little more aggression in my music. Many punk bands aren't that talented when it comes to playing their instruments and singing as well, at least compared to other forms of music. There's obviously exceptions to the rule, but what I've heard I'm just not a fan of. And please, don't even mention that radio crap. Good Charolette belongs nowhere.

Dead Kennedys
Ramones (light-hearted and dumb, but oh-so-fun)
Buzzcocks
The Clash (earlier stuff)
The Damned
Black Flag
Misfits (not the new stuff)

You, sir, need some Pink Floyd in your life!Already do. Absolutely incredible artists and crafters of some of the most beautiful music ever created. I can't say they're my favourite band, however, simply because I don't listen to much prog rock aside from them, so don't have much to compare them to. Aside from some Jethro Tull and Genesis, I haven't heard much else.

1: The real stuff is very aggressive. What are you talking about?I haven't heard anything like Black Flag (which I hear is very aggressive), but going by bands like The Clash, Sex Pistols and Ramones, well, it's nothing to a death metal fan. :P

2: Hahahaha. Just because they play only a few chords per song doesn't mean they aren't talented. Once again: Hahahahahahahaha.Very well; the songs they play are simple and do not require much talent to play properly. Happy? :P

3: Good Charlotte isn't even "Punk Rock". It's Pop Rock built for radio play.I refer to them as pop punk most of the time, along with SUM 41 and Blink 182. I didn't mean to make it seem like I thought they were true punk.

On rap, I don't find it musical. It's poetry (often of very simple grade, if you've studied poetry in even basic form) and communicates life experiences most of the time, set to a simple and repetative beat. It's hard for me to call it music because it only adheres to the most basic of musical structures. Although, older stuff is more musical and I can even stand to listen to it sometimes. Anything on the radio today is absolute crap.

1: Black Flag is very aggressive, as are the Adolescents (the originators of Orange County Hardcore). But, compared to Death Metal? Naah, not so much :p.

2: That's better.

3: Pop Punk really lost its meaning over the years, thanks to MTV. "Pop Punk" means Punk Rock with Pop overtones. It's still aggressive and very listenable. The Buzzcocks were the originators of "Pop Punk". Listen to them, and you'll see what I'm talking about.

True, because all MTV plays nowadays is mindless rap, r'n'b and hideous pop-punk (The Used, urrrgh)... but anyway, what I'm saying, is that if one says that he doesn't like a particular genre of music, then I just don't think that others should attempt to influence his/her state of mind. Let him/her listen to other types of punk, and if he/she likes it, then good. But if not, then I, for one, wouldn't change their mind.

I understand. However, with people disliking Punk Rock, it's usually because they've only heard the mainstream Pop Rock shit MTV tries to pass it off as. I've encountered this with a lot of people on multiple forums, so I feel that I need to ask these questions.

1. Iron Maiden - Phantom of the Opera

2. Generally, I only listen to Heavy or Scandanavian metal, interspersed with some Death metal. I also listen to some good old Rock n' Roll and most older classical rock.

I dislike most other forms of music, but I hate rap/RnB/hip hop etc. The other genres just dont do anything for me. I also dislike Nu-metal and punk rock, along with most other new-age rock today.

3. I'm in a good mood. Feeling relaxed (even though I've got exams on) and quite comfortable.

Heh. I have a whole Web Site devoted to this stufff...I've been waiting for a thread like this to show up.

1. What are you listening to right now? My Playlist (http://www.geocities.com/corneriarocks/#chart)

(Not to advertize, but that's what I listen to most of the time)

2. What type of music do you typically like and dislike? I don't dislike any genres really- I'll listen to any kind of music, as long as it's good. I find I really need vareity when I listen, just to keep things interesting. I'm also of the opinion- to paraphrase a quote my brother passed onto me- that there are no bad artists, just bad performances. No-skill hacks, yes, but a little ingenuity can create something listenable out of nothing at all (my favourite? An ad MuchMusic aired about a year ago I think where some guy created "music" out of outdoor sounds, like bouncing his car or shifting in his seat in some way (the tagline was "need more music in your life?"). May sound weird, but I thought it was EXTREMELY interesting to listen to)

3. Mood? Good. Most of the time anyway.

(By the way, The Bauhas, you didn't answer this one ;) )

1. What are you listening to right now?
"The Card Cheat" - The Clash

2. What type of music do you typically like and dislike?

Typically like:
-The old school punk, such as The Clash, The Ramones, the Sex Pistols and the Dead Kennedys. Garden variety stuff.
- 60's rock, specifically British invasion stuff like the Stones, the Beatles, and early Who.
- Progressive rock from the '60's and '70's such as the Velvet Underground, Pink Floyd, and Jefferson Airplane.
- Folk and country along the lines of Bob Dylan, John Prine, Woodie and Arlo Guthrie.
- Japanese noise rock cult band The Boredoms.
- More recent stuff like the White Stripes, The Libertines, and bands that sort of straddle the line between alternative and pop, like The Shins, Belle and Sebastian, more recent output by The Flaming Lips, and Death Cab for Cutie. Harmonious stuff that's good on the ears basically.
- Some of the underground hip hop floating around like Apathy and The Demigodz.
- Bjork.
- Blur.
- Certain classical composers. I'm really into Sibelius and Wagner right now.
- Tango. I've mostly been exposed to Astor Piazzola's works.

Dislike:
- Blatantly emo trash like Bright Eyes and Something Corporate.
- For some reason Nick Drake makes me want to beat my brains against something until the white meat shows.

In other words, anything manufactured to sound soulful or underproduced.

3. Mood?
Mood, like... what I listen to in specific moods? It's to random to call.

I actually posted on this sort of thread a while ago but here goes again...

1. Right now: Led Zeppelin, Greatful Dead, and Jethro Tull are in my cd player, all getting their well deserved turns :) Right at this moment? It's "What Is and What Should Never Be" by Zepp.

2. Well it's kinda obvious by now, but I like mostly Classic Rock and the Blues, with some other random stuff like folk, some jazz, a little regae, hard rock and a tiny bit into the realm of metal. Still, anyone who listens to music from beyond 1960 must admit that although they aren't the best types of music out there in lots of people's opinion (i think they are better than anything), Blues and Rock were like the "Star Wars" of music: the originaters! :D

2. What type of music do you typically like and dislike? -

1. "Loge, hör! lausche hieher!"

2. I'm pretty exclusive with classical music (this includes most baroque, classical, and post-romantic/romantic era works--I can only stand some Debussy, and tend to shy away from Ravel and such). Folk and other music I listen to occasionally, and top 40 music is typical 'social' music. But I like classical music, and most others I'm ambivalent towards. Well, okay, I really dislike both "serious" music trends of the 20th century: Minimalism and Serialism. I'f I were any more against them I might rent a U-Haul...

3. Right now my mood is relaxed. And a little anxious, because Brunnhilde just got stuck on a fire-encircled rock (in the music I'm listening to) and it has been foreshadowed that Siegfried (when Wotan says "no one shall save you that fears my spear" Siegfried's theme is playing--because he will be the one not to fear Wotan's spear) will be the one to rescue her--so the audience is all hot and bothered with anticipation. 1. What are you listening to right now? Rammstein - Reise Reise (Ohne Dich right now).

2. What type of music do you typically like and dislike? Like - Industrial, metal, punk, ska, hardcore, some of the heavier 'indie' rock.
Dislike - modern 'RnB' (it's really not though), hip hop, dance (incl. trance, house, etc etc etc.)

3. Mood? Kinda nothingness right now. Avoiding revision...the only reason I'm listening to Rammstein right now is that it came round on my mp3 player, and I like it sufficiently to not bother changing it.

1. Dies Irae, from Verdi's Requiem (NOT the one from Mozart's Requiem, which everyone knows, although i love that one too)

Clearly, otherwise you would have said Mozarts requiem.

1. What are you listening to right now?
A song I wrote for my Chemestry Culminating. It's MIDI and sounds quite bad. After this is "Kid Gloves" by Rush.

2. What type of music do you typically like and dislike?
I love Classic Rock, Anything by Rush and just about every style except (c)Rap. Hip-hop, with good lyrics and accompaniment is OK, however.

3. Mood?
Quite happy.

There's so many serious topics out there (abortion, religion, etc.), I thought I'd post some fun crap that no one'd fight over.

Just a few questions:

1. What are you listening to right now?

2. What type of music do you typically like and dislike?

3. Mood?

1. Harder to Breathe-Songs About Jane-Maroon 5

2. I like a variety of stuff. I like almost all sub-genres of Rock, ska, reggae, hip-hop, R&B, some pop, Latin, classical, etc. I dislike country/Southern rock IMMENSELY! I also don't like bubblegum pop.

jodee messina "my give-a-damns busted"

i mostly listen to country, it reminds me of early 60s rock and you can sing along to it without looking stupid. or getting stared at for the vile language you are using

i sometimes listen to folk or blues. occasionally 50's and 60s rock oldies but they make me feel old.

i know there is good stuff being put out today in the pop/rock categories but there is just so much crap that its not worth it to me to wait for it.
