THis thread is for all discusions about the Pale Hose, or if you want to talk about other baseball events we can do so.
As I write this the Sox are 31-14 with a comfortable 5 game lead in the AL Central and the MLB's best record. Great starting pitching is responsible for this start.
#56 Mark Buehrle (7-1) 3.33
#34 Freddy Garcia (4-3) 3.56
#26 Orlando "el duque" Hernandez (5-1) 3.91
#52 Jose Contreras (2-1) 3.23
#20 Jon Garland (8-1) 2.57
Batting hasn't been as good as past years, but it isn't bad. Konerko, Rowand, and Dye are heating up after slow starts. Scott Podsednik has 26 SBs and is on track for 95 (he missed 1 week of the season so he should have 30.) Iguchi is making a case for ROY and Everett is producing for once. AJ Pierzynski is as good as ever, but Uribe is slumping and Joe Crede is just, well CREDE-E-O-CRE (he plain sucks, can't wait until Josh Fields gets called up from the minors.)
The pen is great with the exception of Luis Vizcaino. They have combined for 20 saves compiled between Marte, Shingo Takatsu, and DUstin Hermanson. Hermanson is 10/10 in saves and has an ERA of 0.00 with 20.1 IP.
It will be a great year on the Southside. We're getting the rings this time!
I've been to 4 games thus far at USCF. THe first was the 4-16-2004 2-1 win over the Mariners. Buehrle pitched a CG 3 hitter that was only 99 minutes, the shortest MLB game since 1984. All 3 Mariner hits came from Ichiro (who is on my Fantasy team). Konerko hit 2 solo shots for the White Sox offense allowing the Pale Hose to win.
My 2nd game was an 8-0 win over the Tigers. Jon Garland pitched a CG shutout as Timo hit the Sox only HR amd blew up the famous "exploding scoreboard". Pods and Iguchi did well with nice base running and steals.
My 3rd game was the 5-15-05 Orioles game. Contreras vs. some Oriole loser. Contreras had his only true poor start on the year and got his only loss to date as the Sox bats fell cold against the 2nd best team in the AL. I sat in a skybox. My uncle works for MIller who has a box. My graduation gift from him was going to the game. The box ruled and I was almost directly behind home. I was only 40 feet from announcer Ken "Hawk" Harrelson the whole game and I stuck my head out of the window to wave to him and he acknowledged me! I love Hawk for his "YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOOOOOAAAARRRRDDDD, YESSSS!" HR call and his "HE GAWN!" strike out call. GOod game despite the Sox loss. Dye and Everett took the Orioles yard in the 7th for the Sox only bit of offense.
My 4th game was the next game on 5-16. I saw the Sox lose a 6-7 heartbreaker against the hard hitting Rangers. I was sitting in good ole section 116. El Duque got shelled with 6 ER in 2.2 IP. It was recently revealed he was pitching with an injured shoulder and he was placed on the DL 5-20 as a result (DL placement is retroactive for 5-17-05) AJ Pierzynski hit a GRAND SLAMMY! It was the first one I've ever seen. My Cub fan friend who I went with said he had seen a couple of grand slams at Wrigley. I ask the natural question "how many were hit by CUb players." The answer was the expected "0". He said he saw Barroids hit one (but of course I don't count anything Barry Bonds ever hit due to BALCO!)
My 5th game is coming up on Memorial Day when I see Freddy Garcia kick Angel ass. I'll be sporting my black pinstriped home #34 Freddy Garcia jersey I bought after he was signed to the 3 year contract extension. I'm sitting back in section 116 again. (right field line, 2/3 the way down)
I will have seen all 5 Sox starters this year after this game. I was lucky to see Loaiza last year before he got traded. no matter how many games I go to it's always fun. I get goosebumps everytime they run the 90 second film of the Sox top moments in history. (I love the double steal on home around the early 1970s when the White Sox were wearing RED pinstripes (I wish I was joking about that uniform, but they seriously wore it during the DIck Allen, Bill Melton era). Then they play AC/DC's "Thunderstruck" when they do the starting lineup as stadium announcer Gene Honda yells "SOX FANS! ON YOUR FEET! YOUR 2005 CHIIIICAAAAGOOO WHITE SOX!" The place goes crazy when they announce the pitcher (we have the best staff in MLB) and Veeck's exploding scoreboard lights up as the fireworks shoot out of it as they have done at Sox games for the past 45 years. The board also explodes for HRs and White Sox WINNERS! I also love nothing more than when a packed house sings "na na na na na hey hey ey goodbye" as a manager pulls an opposing pitcher who just got rocked by these white hot sox!
