I guess you don't read much. Consider the national anthems of various nations - I don't see the French or Germans running back right now to make their national anthems inoffensive to other countries - or converting them to pacifistic politically correct elevator music.

You'll notice that the song God Bless America does not contain the words blood, or victory, or "over all", and is not a militaristic song. It doesn't even say, "God Bless America and To Hell With Other Countries".

It's a simple song with some pride in it.

And as an American and a Christian, I don't know where you get this "holy nation" idea from. It's just not that way over here.

I couldnt help it-I just ran out the front door and screamed "God Bless America" into the street. Oddly enough,my neighbor was doing it at the same time.

God blessed America because were a Christian country and were fighting to help people around the world learn the good news that Jesus died for their sins and if they dont accept him as their savior theyl bern in hell. Only America is standing up to the mohomedans and their pedophile prophet and theri moon god. Only America is stoping Africans from aborting their babies and spreading gay aids by promoting abstinence. God blessed America because we do Gods work. We are Gods country and Gods chosen people (other than Israel)

I know about the removed verses. But we made them remove them. It wasn't voluntary.

Additionally, I find the rest of the song rather imperialistic - and the whole chorus is bombastic to say the least.

Some American Christians think of themselves as a modern day chosen people, but most who say "God bless America" probably don't mean "God bless America exclusively".

Sure, we could say "God Bless the World" or "God Bless Us All". But that doesn't mean that "God Bless America" is necessarily a petition to the Lord for His exclusive favor.

I agree. Actually, I was just thinking (haven't done it in months) and I believe that what presidents usually say is "May God bless America." Perhaps he's thinking "Because if He doesn't we are all screwed."

The majority of old countries anthems are...the USA for example is about a battle...the British is very imperialistic...big deal, perhaps that's why so few people in Britain really don't take too much pride is singing it.

Then we all gave thanks through prayer.

then we thought of cool strategies for oppressing the rest of the world with the help of God.

then we thought of all the countries with oil and how neat it would be to govern them, only after blasting all their people with nukes.

Like many others said before, "God bless America" in no way means only America. I also find it funny when British people call Americans Imperialistic. The average American is as responsible for whatever percieved crimes are taking place against America's enemies as the Average Brit is responsible for England's percieved crimes against India and China (Opium Wars: good call england).

But, if you really insist that God can only bless America, then pray that Bush gets the sudden Idea to take over all the world. Then when every piece of land belongs to America, and God blesses America, God will be blessing everyone. Problem solved
