LIGHT-SABRE DUEL PUTS TWO IN HOSPITAL
TWO Star Wars fans are in a critical condition in hospital after duelling with lightsabres made by filling fluorescent light tubes with petrol.
The pair - a man aged 20 and a girl of 17 - are believed to have been filming a mock fight when one of the devices exploded in woodland on Sunday.
They were rushed to West Herts Hospital before being transferred to the specialist burns unit at Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford, in Essex.
Police say a third person present at the incident was questioned.
As posted on a forum I post on :) Darwinism in practice me thinks
(well attempted anyways)
If anyone can find the link to the story I tried but have not found it yet :)

WTF? Flourescent tubes full of gasoline? How does that work as a lightsaber? Was the gasoline burning?

You'll notice that they were making napalm - not just filling glass tubes with gasoline to make lightsabers.
It sounds to me that they made up the star wars thing after the fact. I think they were playing around with napalm.

Yeah but to make napalm there was no reason to put it in florescence light tubes if that was the plan (they could have been going for napalm for the fight but the tube part don’t make sense if the only purpose was to make napalm)
And something about a videotape in there too … that would be interesting lol
Fluorescent lights? Filled with gasoline?!

You do have to remove yourself from the gene pool, however. So unless this accident somehow destroys their ability to reproduce, they're not eligible for the Darwin Award.

Until bleeding hearts come along and demand universal healthcare so the rest of us have to pay for the medical care of these morons. Keep in mind, that one day these people will probably reproduce.

I guess we'll have to see what was recorded by the video camera the police are looking at.

You know, I've made that "homemade napalm" stuff before. It burns pretty fiercely, and sticks to stuff as it burns, but I've never seen it explode on it's own. If they were trying to make a bomb the police will probably be able to scrape residue from explosives off of the glass fragments.

Fuel air bombs are very potent and only thing required is gas (petrol) and being able to vaporize it decently (so no REAL residue besides petrol)

Well, if they put it into a tube, lighted it, and then closed the tube it would become a "bomb". The fire releases gas, which cannot get out of the tube. Eventually (i.e. "pretty damn quickly") there is no more room for gas, which then pushes against the tube and causes it to explode. That's now gunpowder bombs work, since gunpowder simply burns and doesn't go off like a bomb if you light some sprinkled on the sidewalk.

By making napalm you actually make the liquid more viscous. It evaporates less, I think.

I just meant they could have done it with just the petrol so there might be no other “explosives” to find that they don’t already know about

agreed, allthough you can get a true darwin award - while alive - by castrating yourself in a really stupid (and thus painfull) way.
