Tigons

The Bengal and Amur (or Siberian) tigers are both larger and more powerful than African lions...

the biggest cat is the Amur tiger, which can weigh in excess of 800 pounds (generally 700-800 pounds).

the bengal tiger is anywhere between 550 and maybe 700 pounds.

the largest african lions get up to maybe 500-525 pounds.

What makes the tiger even better than the lion is the fact that the tiger hunts alone... so is more used to hunting/fighting by itself.

lions, conversely, hunt in groups...

what does this mean?

It means that if a male bengal or amur tiger took on a male african lion in a fairly pitched battle, the facts that:

a)the tiger is bigger
b)the tiger is stronger
c)the tiger is more used to solitary battle

would give the tiger quite an edge.

Tiger's advantage: speed, athleticism, hunting acumen

I'd love to see a Siberian tiger go up against a brown bear... that'd be a good match. bears don't really have to hunt that much, while tigers are used to taking down big game all by themselves. The hunting/fighting edge would go to the tiger. The tiger would also have a huge speed/quickness/athleticism edge over the bear, as the bear is far more bulky and has flat feet (tigers, like dogs/wolves, walk on their toes).

No he's not. He has a very high metabolism. He can consume an entire herd of wildebeast three times per day and never gain an ounce of fat.

Ligers exist only where man has intervened and put the two large cats into an artificial environment. Ergo, they cannot be king of the jungle. King of the Zoo and Circus, probably.
