Okay, a man who's trying to aid an Al-Queda affiliate by building and selling them a bomb is nowhere near as crazy as the type of bomb he was trying to build:

HOT FUSION

- Okay, based off of my *rumedial* knowledge of nuclear fusion, this guy can't be serious. Nuclear fusion takes a massive amount of energy if you want to simply overcome the Coulumb barrier between protons; let alone having said protons to collide. I mean, whatever fuel you're using to up the energy of said protons would take up ONE HELL OF A LOT OF SPACE. HOW would you HIDE something like this???

(btw the Hot Fusion part wasn't mentioned in there; I actually heard that watching Fox News - and DONT turn this into a 'Omg F0x is t3h bi4s3d!' thread all coz I heard something from them)

A good ol' fashioned nuclear bomb would do the trick.

this guy (the one arrested) is indeed a moron. Oh well, he will pay the price.

The problem is that two guys full of hate for no good reason (according to most people) took a truck full of fertilizer and blew it up, killing dozens in OK City, thus proving that even homegrown haters can be just as dangerous as foreign haters.

Fusion bombs use a fission bomb as a detonator... there's not a chance in hell he was building a fusion (aka: thermonuclear) bomb. Not with the faintest hope of success anyway.

I'd conjecture that this is a fake attack. If the plan is so flawed what was the point?

Terrorists, as apparently demonstratd on 9/11, are capable creature, outwitting both the CIA and the FBI on a massively important scale (So what if Clinton/Bush had ignored warnings. They are paid to act).

Terroists fund worthwile operations. Look at the attacks on the Army in Iraq. 9/11. The USS Cole. The elusiveness of Osama (or his body...though it could have been burnt).

They do not give a fool a load of nuclear material.

My cynical thinking is that a certain organisation planted this (perhaps the man is guilty of a minor crime, or is a saudi convict, or a truly innocent man, -or a terrorist-) in order to keep the state of American fear up, so that overtly militaristic operations can be carried out with the tax payer's money for the interests of the aforementioned organisation. Nothing needs proven. But rest assured America feels under threat. Unfortunately I expect a real attack needs to be carried out soon, either in an allied country or near the end of Bush's administration. So that Cheney can get in.

But maybe he was just an idiot with a load of money and underworld contacts who simply had no clue as to how to operate the device. Perhaps it is designed to keep Americans thinking that the enemy is stupid (thus validating the Moral cause, "by God").

(200 years ago the cry of Imperialism was "God, Queen/King and Country"; one noun down, two more to go).

Unfortunately, since the fall of the Wall and the Soviet Union, we've seen an surge in nuclear proliferation.

In the waning days of the USSR, the powers that be in Moscow decided to sell their military stockpiles to pay off their debts. That's why the AK rifle is the most common weapon, and why any psychotic with motivation can get a hold of weapons-grade plutonium.

Terrorists may not be the best in terms of technology, but there's plenty of nuclear material floating out there, and since the USSR lay-off's of nuclear scientists, there's also people out there with the know-who who need a quick buck.

I wonder how long until the genetically modified plague or the weaponized smallpox that the Soviets were manufacturing for use as strategic biological weapons end up in the hands of terrorists?

Didn't the Soviets have some pretty nasty chemical weapons too?

We've seen a surge in nuclear warheads being unacounted for. This does not mean that it is easy or cheap to get hold of, particularly in Continental America. The US is the only country with nukes, and weapons grade material. If this one idiot could get hold of this stuff, why could the 9/11 hijackers not do it. Much more Apocylaptic.

The AK is the most common weapon because it is still manufactured across the world. The Soviets gave way to capitalism and so sold the rights of manufacture. It is so cheap to make and maintain that everybody wants a factory. China, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Russia, Former Warsaw Pact Countries.

If any psychotic with motivtion can get hold of this stuff then why has a clever terrorist not already launched an attack. Either the war on terror is won, or the terrorists are very stupid (despite their supposedly Oxford/Yale educated leadership).

Why this idiot. Fall guy perhaps?
