A re-enactment of the Battle of Trafalgar is not an opportunity for "French-bashing", says the Royal Navy.
Instead of the British taking on a French/Spanish fleet at next month's event to mark the battle's bicentenary a "red" force will take on a "blue".

...I'm an American, and I'm sorry, but this is a level of politically correct BS that'd be on par with calling the sides re-enacting Custer's Last Stand as the "shirts & skins". This is history! This is life! Sometimes, one LOSES!

Thoughts??

Though I don't agree with unessecary gloating and bigotry but this is PC gone too far! What next they'll re-enact the Black Death without the killing because it's offensive to the people who suvived or may a 1966 re-actment that ends 0-0, as we don't want to offend the losers now!

Red v Blue?

I think if they do it that way they should be required to do it like the guys at redvsblue.com.

I think I'd be offended if I were one of Lord Nelson's descendants. Otherwise, I'm just amused that PC has gotten so out of control. After all, Nelson didn't just beat the French and Spanish fleet, he whipped them.

unfortunately, as a British conservative, I have noticed that virtually evry aspect of our country has been consumed by political correctness. We seem unable to celebrate anything properly for fear of offending others. This year in my town we were prevent from putting St. Georges flags up for St. Gearges day as it was feared this may offend our Muslim community. As it happened, our Muslim community were not bothered about the flags at all and more offended that the authorities thought that they were that intolerant. Britain is currently languishing under another term of labour rule (which threatens to continue long into the future) and they are very interested in maintaining this strange trend of political correctness in the extreme, which seems to be destorying our country.

I read a similar story about ham sandwiches in public school cafeterias. The Muslim answer was that they are quite prepared to point out when they are offended.

It's funny, you can't fly St Georges flags in Saudi Arabia because they kill Christians that practice Christianity, and you can't fly them in the UK because they might offend the same folks. The terrorists have already won.

Yes, but the fact remains that St. George is our patron saint and most of us think that we should able to fly his flag on his national day. The whole thing just seems to lack any common sense. And the pig thing has become a bit of a taboo, i agree.
The fact is also that many British people are immnesely proud of our victory over Napoleon. Nelson was one of Britain's greatest heroes and it seems sad and degrading not just to him but to our entire country that everything he fought and died for is now snubbed. The government would do better to deal with the soaring crime on our streets and the filthy state of our hospitals.

Red vs Blue??? can PC get any more absurd than that? Geez, I would think the French would be insulted too, and the Spanish. After all, a lot of Frenchmen and Spanish fought extremely bravely and died just as bravely even though they were defeated. As did a lot of English. It sullies all of their names to call it "Red vs Blue".

Most of them are too stupid to realize that. So, they'll come back again with something worse the next time around.

I'm just waiting. I foresee a day when they commit another major attack - far worse in size, scale, and scope than 9-11.

And when that happens, there will be an unmitigated rage in the streets that no government will be willing or able to contain. Within the Western nations that are affected, something will happen (I'm not wishing for this, I'm just predicting) that will make the Final Solution look like child's play.

Woe to us on the day we can't celebrate our victory over the English. A few years back, I had some British neighbors and we celebrated July 3rd with a "Surrender Supper". We reciprocated with a Victory party on the 4th. Talk about a lost couple days.

The French? pah! This entrie thing has been orchestrated to spare them the embarrassment of being reminded of yet another military failure.

I would assume that the Brits have to be the blue side, since there is no blue in the Spanish flag... so it's not quite unsided. Hmm...

Really? Im sure that we were red. We fought in red, hence the term "redcoats." Our marines also fought in red. The French Grande Armee wore blue. Traditionally we are red.

Yes, I know... but France/Spain can hardly be blue in this case... The Spanish flag has red, but no blue!

Yes that is pretty stupid. As an American, I've seen the ravages of political correctness on our history, as when the Smithsonian did an exhgibit on the driopping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima which practically blamed the US for WWII in Asia; never mind that Japan attacked us (and did some terrible
things to other Asians). OK, the morality of the bomb was debatable, but facts are facts.
You in the the UK owe a lot to Nelson. Napoleon was a tyrant and the victory at Traflagar may well have saved your freedom and prevented some really nasty changes in the course of world history. Come to speak of it, we in the US probably owe a lot to Nelson as well.

I congratulate my American friend for his clear vision. Both of our nations have a long and proud military tradition and Americans should be able to remember the magnificent job they did in the second world war.
