A question for the veterans of NS General

Let's say your entire family (wife, children, brothers, uncles, cousins, everyone) were killed by the mob at a family gathering and you were mortally wounded and left for dead.

Let's say you emurged 2 years later and found out that no arrests had been made even though the police knew exactly who did it. Would you allow the legal system to eventually take care of it or would you take matters into your own hands? If you were to take it into your own hands, how would you approach it?

well if my entire family were killed i'd probably just kill myself too.

if i didn't do that i'd leave it to the legal system, even if i had no faith in it. i would want justice, not revenge; and revenge =/= justice

edit: hope i'm veteran enough to post here...

Life is not a movie.

Members of my family and I have been victims of assault before. The law in general is an ass, and most criminals who commit assault are never arrested. Our cases have been typical.

No, I wouldn't hunt anyone down. But we do carry weapons now. It's not going to happen again.

Interestingly, none of this has anything to do with my prior service. When I left the service, I initially thought, "ok, I can stop carrying a weapon."

I've been physically hurt more as a civilian than I ever was in the military in combat. While I was shot at more in the military, there seems to be a much larger number of people in the civilian world who like to beat people - especially women.

So my wife and I carry pistols now. All the time.

That's the kind of answer I was looking for. I was comparing the character The Punisher to a real life veteran. I wanted to see if there were ANY similar or realistic characteristics, and as I thought, there aren't.

What family? I don't have one.

If I did I'd probably figure out the most excruciating death possible and administer it to the murderer.

I would be crushed, but I wouldn't do much about it being a pacifist

I'm not what you would call a 'Veteran' of General...I've not been posting for as long as some of these guys, but personally I would hunt down ever last one of the little bastards and put out his eyes with a spoon.

And then break his shins with a large, heavy (Cricket bat?) blunt instrument, rip out their fingernails with a pair of pliers, smash their fingers and toes with a hammer and take a blowtorch to their crotch before finally burying them alive. Face down. How long can someone go without food or water? It's about five or six days, I think.

It's enough to be sure that they don't do it again. :)

I think he means combat veteran.
And it's three days without water. Max.

I have spent many nights thinking about this. And my plan is simple. With my family and friends gone, my life is effectively pointless. I'd have no one to care for. I would take my Katana in hand, walk to the town center, and kill everyone. I shall punish mankind for it's greed, it's hated (And my own), it's pointlesness, and for one final moment of fun. With luck the police would eventually shoot me dead, or take me to a loony bin where my hatred can fester undisturbed.

One last moment of satisfaction in a cruel world.

Indeed...I told a friend I wanted to deploy, and she replied that wasn't I scared that I'd die...I did the math and replied that I have a greater chance of dying in my truck on the way to work than I do of dying in combat.

If someone were to kill my family...I probably would attend the funerals and return to work. I'm not terribly close to my family. In fact, this weekend is the first time I've seen or talked to a number of them in a few months / years...

I don't know what's more worrying - the plan you've come up with, or the fact that you've spent many nights thinking about this scenario. Think of bunny rabbits instead.

dude you're such an extrovert... my plan involves going down to the secluded Asda car park in me car, buying some hose pipe and tape, and sitting in the car with the engine on for a while...

agreed with the whole 'without family life looses meaning' thing tho

That won't happen. People kill for a reason in Hong Kong.

Wait. My brother is studying in LA. Sh*t!!!!

I fear America because of what I see on American television. It's how your media chooses to project your nation to the world, and it's disgusting.

Don't ever underestimate the ingenuity of the very large and very protective corps of US Veterans, particularly those of us who were in either counterinsurgency ops or special warfare. :D
