Hey Liberals, pat yourself on the back and talk about why you feel happy about things. Conservatives, hold your anger in check for awhile.

I'm happy because I saw Star Wars. What this has to do with being liberal is beyond me, but you said to post why you're happy.

I'm happy because I can see how people's behaviour is affected by social and economic factors rather than just seeing certain people as "evil."

Also, I've only got one week left of college, so I'm ecstatic. :p

I'm happy-sad because I'm a liberal conservative. That's right... figure that one out.

Happy-sad? That's Orwellian! Not very liberal at all!

Neither am I, LP. In fact, it's one of my key phrases, which I can say in seven languages. *grins*

Also, I'm happy that I may get a chance to see some Mayan Ruins (I'm a fond lover of history, and archaeology), and have been able to relax a bit. *pats myself on the back for being a happy liberal*

In general or do we get to pat ourselves on the back for what liberal/progressive thinking has done for the United States?

I mean .... if you want, I can make a huge list of how liberal thinking has benefitted the US, but I'm not sure what you're getting at. I'm not saying "what liberals have done for the US" because some of the progressive actions taken by the government of the Unites States were taken by Republicans and/or those who are normally conservative, but they stepped outside politics to do that which is right.

If that's what you want, fine. If you just want us to be happy for our own accomplishments, I can do that too ... though I'm not much of a self back patter. I did manage to make coffee in the dark this morning, though, without stepping on any toys. I'm quite happy about that.

"I'll be truly happy when Bush is out of office..."

There, I said it, is that what you expected? Or maybe...

"I'm happy because I think I'm right and the other guy is wrong!"

Or perhaps...

"NEOCONS R TEH SUXXOR!!!"

...Take your pick.

So, what exactly do we liberals have to be happy about?

We're disorganized, wishy-washy, and crippled by competition, infighting, and elitism.

We need to come together, lose the dogma and the jargon, and reach out to the people we're trying to represent...namely, everyone. We need to focus on efficacy instead of purism. We need to focus on appealing to the voters and getting our message out. We need to take back the concepts of "morality" and "patriotism", instead of letting that language be commandeered and perverted by the far right. Damn it, we need better marketing!

All right...I've vented. Now I'm happy. :p

I'm happy in general. Exams have finished and I'm still enjoying life in Liverpool.

Though I'm not a liberal, I'll try and pat myself on the back.

Given the regressive ultra-conservative anti-social policies and practices of the current administration, with emphasis on Bush, Cheny, Rumsfeld, Rice, and a few others?

We can be happy that we trust our system to eventually wash the crap out, and start actually governing for the people (as opposed to for the corporate interests) again.
