Disappearing bookmarks?

Argh.
All my bookmarks in Firefox just randomly disappeared, apparently.
Does anyone know if there is a way to fix this?

has it happened before? There is the possibility that it was just a burp and will never happen again. Other than that, I have no idea. This MAY have happened to me before, but it was on another pc, so there is the possibility that the favourites were just cleared. There were several of them, bordering a hundred, and they weren't arranged in any way.

That completely stinks.

(....you moved to Female as well, eh? So that's Mexico, Canada, and New England? I'm considering moving to Female, Scotland. But it rains even more there...)

Yeah, mine is a similar situation to that one. I had a year's worth of favorites stored, and now they've all up and left.

Mine did that. Make back ups, that's really all that I can say. Dunno how to recover them.

Try hunting around in your user/application settings directory, or whatever Windows calls it. There might be a copy or a corrupt file that you can recover. I don't remember the directory names, you'll just have to drill down into the directory that windows sets up for each user.

I don't know where Firefox stores favorites, but IE keeps them in a directory. If you move the pointer to a different directory, it looks like they all disappeared, but they're still in the old location.

If you use Windows XP, the default is either c:\documents and settings\username\favorites or c:\windows\favorites.

If you're on a domain model network, the default is \\%homeshare%\favorites.

Of course if somebody deletes the directory, they're gone.

One possible solution is to use a browser that doesn't suck. :p

I just leave it set not to collect cookies. Makes Nationstates surfing a short-term affair, but I don't have to worry about it.

Ever since I upgraded to Firefox 1.0.4 I've noticed that when I open the browser, sometimes my bookmarks are missing. It's almost as if they're all one word, and they're too long to fit on the single line. If I close the browser, reload it, all is well. It happens enough that it's annoying, but they don't disappear entirely. I always keep backups for that, too, in any event.

I have Opera, but I can't seem to get it to run very well. Sometime I need to try to tweak it a bit.

Yeah. I looked it up, apparantly its one of those bugs that they have no clue how it occurs or why it occurs. No solution known for it besides backups.

Same exact thing happened to me. There was absolutely nothin' I could do. It was like they decided to delete themselves off me system. I was NOT happy.
