What do you think is the best movie trilogy of all time?

My personal favorate is The Lord of the Rings. It is a classic story with modern graphics, special effects, and good actors.

This was a very hard choice, but, I'd have to say the original Star Wars trilogy.

Star Wars: is not a trilogy, so doesn't count. It's six films, and now they're all complete they shouldn't be viewed as seperate in any way. If this was "best movie series", however, it would obviously be the one I would vote for.

LotR: Although definately very enjoyable, the more I watch them the more I realize how horrifically unfaithful they are to the books. Read them instead.

The Matrix: gets more and more involving and powerful with each film; starting with the relatively simple and, to be honest, pretty obvious philosophical analogy of the "real world" vs. the "dream world" in the original, in the sequels it manages to take this and interweave ideas from various worldviews and thought schools into a coherant whole that culminates in an epic battle for the humanity within everyone. In fact, after seeing the sequels, I find the original film to be pretty boring. But still, all three are amazing masterpieces.

I vote for Star Wars, the original trilogy.
Next for me would come the second trilogy.
Then Indiana Jones.
Then Lord of the Rings.
Then the Matrix.

I disagree. Older fans, who aren't fans of the new trilogy, aren't going to see it as a complete series despite it being such. Thus, calling each sets a pre- and original trilogy are accurate.

I voted for LOTR, but I take that back. Back to the Future was much better. Then LOTR, then Indiana Jones, then Harry Potter, then all the other crap.

Indiana Jones trilogy for me. Followed by Evil Dead and then Star Wars: Original Trilogy. Then the new one, then Back To The Future.

Lord of the Rings, for sure.

SW: 4,5 and 6 are fine. SW:1,2 and 3 bite. (Vader as whiny wuss?)

The rest? Indy Jones and the Temple of Doom wasn't that good. It just didn't do it for me. Last Crusade was very good, and the original was good also.

That's bullshit. It's all star wars...all made by the same guy. Older fans who for whatever ignorant reason aren't fans of the new series just have an incomplete star wars background. Without having all the information, their opinions are worthless.

LOTR is my favorite, though its really close to the Matrix trilogy. I guess the world of the elves atracts me slightly more then the one with the sentinels :).

I'd say it's a tie between Lord of the Rings and Star Wars Original Trillogy. Don't make me make the choice!

I was one of the greatest Star Wars fans in existence before I watched the prequels. Just because I didn't like them as much as the OT does NOT invalidate my opinion and to believe otherwise is simply ignorant.

Has it ever occurred to you that some people just didn't like the new films on their own merits rather than out of "ignorance" or "malice"?
