Which is better for you, for me its privatisation, as it provides free opportinity and makes people rich! :) love it or hate it, its here to stay.

I think it depends very much on the company or organisation. Some businesses and services are very much better in state-controlled hands.

I agree with blu-tac. Privatisation is a win-win situation. In the end people get the services and the owners get rich. The NHS was a nice idea but it just doesnt seem to be able to cope, despite the hard work of its employees.

I guess it all depends on what kind of privatisation you're talking about. A state run steel industry doesn't make much sense. But some form of national health cover certainly does. With private health cover, insurers only want to cover healthy people. They don't want to cover anyone they think might is likely to need expensive medical treatment. As a result many people will be unable to receive cover they can afford. Also, the insurance companies will spend a lot of time and money on testing people and attempting to deny claims. It is more efficent for the government to cover everybody. That way you won't have the adverse selection that private insurers have.

I have to agree, for the most part, with privitization (privitisation). However, I also agree there are some things best left to nationalized, or at least localized government (Police, for example, should be localized, but under civil control).

I think that privatisation is only acceptable in areas where it is in the best interest of the company to make the customers happy. Some areas such as prison systems, etc woul not be applicable as it would be too easy for the company to cut costs by not considering the prisoners as important

Privatisation is about as infailable as the weather man. Simple as that.

There are COUNTLESS ways a privatisation can go wrong, and do go wrong. One fearful peak at Russia will give you what you need to know.

Strangely enough, Russia also shows us why nationalism can be flawed in every way concieveble.

Yukos...and Yukos. Which Yukos do you like? The billionare-making, politically subversive, corrupt, tax-evading Yukos? Or the State-run, Corruptly actioned-off to a front company for the national government, no longer financially stable Yukos?

So yay privatization! Which allowed Enron to happen! And yay nationalization! Which allowed airline pricess to reach 500$ for a one-way ticket within the US!

Both suck, if improperly managed. Why do some people have such a compulsive hard-on for one or the other? Perhaps its just willful blindness to the massive risks and problems. A total lack of prudent (boring) thinking and planning that allows for the efficient use of services and resources.
