Please tell me there's some way to recover a lost saved game

Okay, I'm playing Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, have spent hours playing it, just killed Visas's master, and my best friend just saved over my game when he's a half hour into the game and still on the first level!

Please, tell me there's some way to recover my game. Please!

Before you say it, no, Autosave has been saved by his game, too, and no other memory blocks hold my game.

Well its somewhere between a long shot and no f*cking hope, but good luck.

You could try to see when your last system restore point was, and reset your computer to that date...I doubt that'll work though, too many ways that would run into problems.

If it's on the computer it's easy enough to find savegame downloads on the internet from around the spot you're up to. If its on console he's screwed.

This is why so many people advocate having more than one save, if something goes wrong you've got a back up. Okay it may have been an hour ago, but its better than beggining again from the start!

Clear message here that extra saves are important!

First of all, are you sure that it's been saved over? Look in the corner of the load screen and click the box with switch character on it. It may still be there.

Other than that, no. The game file has been completly rewritten.

ask your friend to kindly start the game over and go onto where you stopped

Well, there has been a precedent set for this already:

'Game theft' led to fatal attack
A Chinese man has been stabbed to death in a row over a sword in online game Legends of Mir 3, say reports.
Shanghai gamer Qiu Chengwei killed player Zhu Caoyuan when he discovered he had sold a "dragon sabre" he had been loaned, said the china Daily.
Mr Chengwei only got the powerful virtual weapon shortly before it was sold for 7,200 yuan (£460).
Before the attack Mr Chengwei told police about the theft who said the weapon was not real property.
So, killing your friend doesn't seem so extreme.
Something to consider.

Other than using cheats to hack you way to where you last wanted to be, I think it's lost.

If he's saved over your file, no, there's no way to restore it. If he had deleted it, there might have been a chance, but actually saving over it destroyed it totally. Kill him. Now.

*Sigh* KotOR II is so unfulfilling...And I never managed to stop production of the HK50 units...

EDIT: Oh yeah, and kill your friend for being a fucktard.

1) KOTOR 1 was kick ass even though I bought it on my xbox instead of PC.

2) If you are playing KOTOR 2 on a console you are shit out of luck(even if its modded), if on a PC you might have a slim chance of resurrecting the file if the underlying data hasnt been damaged.

3) Who cares, play it again. If KOTOR 2 is anything like KOTOR1 then you will be replaying it multiple times anyway.

4) Your lucky to even be able to play KOTOR 2, I looked forward to it for so long, but my comp(Alienware with many mods) that could handle it is thousands of miles away and I am stuck with this crappy laptop that I am posting on.

Oh, thank freaking God! Thank you Jesus! Thank you Buddha! Thank you Vishnu! Thank you Zeus! Thank you Jove! Hell, I'll even thank The Force! Thank you whoever the hell is up there! Thank you DrunkenDove! Thank you so unbelievably much! This is the first game I've played of KOTOR2, I didn't even know there was a 'Switch Characters' button since I've never had another character to switch to until now.

My game is still there! w00t!

hehe, I knew it.

And don't listen to these naysayers. KOTOR 2 is far better than KOTOR 1, in my opinion. And my opinion is law. A question though. are you jedi, Sith, or neutral? I'm too nice to play as a Sith... I actually feel guilty about the nasty stuff you have to do. Would you believe it?

Unless you backed up your game on removable media or by storing more than one save file on the memory card, you've lost your chances of recovering the game. Most people, at least avid gamers, will save onto a HD or FlashDisk, which is the easiest way to keep files secure from the console.

I liked the ending.... Thought given that the topic starter hasn't finished it'd be unfair for me to ask why. Damnit.

And I just beat the game. Well, actually I beat it a few hours ago, but I've been eating and reading the novelised Episode III: Revenge of the Sith since then. So....it's beaten. Yup. I won. It's over. Uh-huh. Yeah. Could it have possibly been more anti-climactic?

What do people dislike about the ending? I realise that there were a few annoying plot holes.... but I wes perfectly happy with the ending.

It wasn't a bad video or conversation, and the fighting before it was fun, but it wasn't an ending. You don't learn anything you didn't know before, you haven't done anything you haven't done before, you didn't even face your greatest challenge (Many fights before the last were much harder). It'd be a good predecessor to the ending, the video before you go and do something big, but it wasn't a good cap to the whole thing.

Plus, there are a bunch of plotholes.
