Do you golf, and where do you play/what's your average?

I'm been playing for 3 years, and am just about to break 100...

I believe it was Mark Twain (I could be wrong, of course) who said that golf is "a good walk, spoiled". I have to say I agree with that.

Although I've lived near Pinhurst NC for a year I never really got into playing gold all that much. I've been on a driving range a couple of times and on the court twice...

I like miniature golf better :D

I not only find golf extremely boring to play, but even more boring to watch. I hope the golf channel DIES a slow, painful DEATH!

And what's up with having golf on main networks instead of MY daytime talk show? If golf MUST be aired on television, can't it at least keep to its own channel?

If I wanted to chase a bunch of dimpled balls around a manicured lawn, I'd switch my sexuality and start frequenting gay garden parties. Landmines would make it much more interesting. I still wouldn't play. With all that said, to each their own. I enjoy pouring all my excess income into vintage synthesizers and repairing the damage I do to my FIAT Dino at gymkhanas. You'd be surprised how easy it is to flip a car while racing between pylons in a parking lot. (Especially a tiny little car with a Ferrari V8 under the hood.....fishtail much?)

So, anyway, getting back on track, I personally enjoy golf (even if you guys don't). I find that at the level I'm at (best is 61 @ a par 3 course), I can play AND enjoy, which is difficult for really, really crappy players. I just find golf relaxing.

My golf game came undone when I was stationed at MCAS Cherry Point. We used to play pretty regularly and in the normal manner of fewest strokes wins the hole. One day, I was teeing off across a decent sized pond that provided a water hazard on the front nine and I shanked the ball.

Right toward the pond. The only thing that saved me was the duck I hit. The ball hit it and dropped on the near side bank of the hazard. I knocked the duck out cold, though. He recovered before I could ring his neck. From then on, the challenge at that hole was to hit a duck. After I transferred out to NAS Whidbey Island, I quit playing golf and started shooting ducks.

Oh, I was right on that 100 threshold, too. Another few ducks and I might have made it.

Golf-hunting as a combo sport!?? GENIUS!!

I think golf is the most stupid pseudo-game ever. Even football makes more sense, at least you really do something in it, unlike golf, where you can even drive around in a little electric car.

It doesn't deserve being called "sport"

Used to play, but gave up 3 years ago (I'm 19 now). Generally managed to break 100. Maybe if I'd played more I would've been better...

Try it carrying the bag (not a pull cart!, CARRY IT) for 9 and you'll believe it's a sport. Do it for 18, and you'll believe that it's torture. ;)

Do you mean real football? Or the bastardised American or Australian versions?

American football isn't soccer (and vice versa), but it is it's own game. Historically, it is about as old as Football (Soccer).

Alright, alright don't tread on me. I just become frustrated by people saying that "soccer" is not the true "football". After all, it is the one sport where hands are not allowed, and football with no hands makes sense...

The only time I've ever played golf I shot 48 on nine holes. I don't know if that's that good or not, but I didn't care for the game at all.

48 on your first 9 holes of a par 72? That's really good...

I agree. I just become frustrated by people saying that "football" can only refer to one game. Chinese Chess isn't any less chess than the occidental game, nor does a watch have to be on one's wrist. :)

Most of those people like the metric system, too. That just demonstrates a flaw in their judgment.

Fascinating game ... hit ball with stick into cup far away in as few hits as possible. I don't play, myself, but have nothing against it. I'd like it better if there were nudity involved and younger, hotter players ... and a vat of Jello(tm).

The Jello is kind of hard to come by. However, I have heard of nudist golf.

Played 9 holes Saturday for the first time in 2 years--challenging little course and shot a 58, which ain't great, but ain't bad either all things considered. And I managed to crank out a handful of really pretty shots along the way.

every summer i stay in a caravan in a town called Portstewart, here in NI. Beside the caravan site (on the other side of the fence) is a brilliant links golf course, one of the better ones in the UK, if not Europe (the first hole is considered one of the best in the world), so i went from arsing about on the practice ground to actually playing properly. It kinda runs in the family too, my grandfather was a big golfer, so is my dad, so i kinda picked it up from there

im shit at it though

It also sheds major light on a person's character/integrity......
