Decide my vote!

Rejistania

In two days, there are elections in Nordrhein Westphalia and I am still pondering who to vote for. My choices are:
* Grüne (Greens)
* PDS (socialists)
* WASG (social fairness)
* SPD (social democrats)

Unfortunately, I can not decide between them 4, so I ask this forum to help me. Please explain, who I should vote for and why, or vote in the poll.

It's an area of Germany!

I'd help you out, Rejis, but I don't know enough about their policies. Is there anywhere I can find out more about them?

See, that's one of the reasons I left the country...

You get to vote, but all the options are more or less unvotable. I selected WASG, mostly because I hardly know anything about them, and their program seems to target the most important issues in Germany at the moment.

PDS and WASG are without any chance to make it into parliament, you might as well not vote. I am going to cast my vote for the SPD, while i am not entirely happy about the current situation, its my belief that continueing a more or less straight line of policies will result in more efficiency than a change.
CDU policies would take one to one and and a half year to implement, a removal of political officials here and there and create general upheaval at the heads of the various agencies and all that for at best two years of actual governing and than another year of making non.offensive politics in order to get reelected. Besides, classic CDU policies rely too much on giving subsidies to the entrepreneurs and then trust them to invest them into creating jobs instead of boosting their profits. Which i couldnt see working out too well the öast time it was tried. The SPD angle, leaving the common man more money in the hope he consume more and therefore indirectly crate jobs doesnt work too good either, but it leaves more money in my pocket and not in those of a few fat cats.

Ack, it seems my German really is rather rusty... I wouldn't advise you to vote SPD, so maybe the Greens, if they stand a chance. But, knowing roughly nothing about the other two, I can't really help you more than that.

If I lived in Germany I would probably vote for the PDS, even if they don't stand a chance of winning, although I have heard that when in government in Berlin and Mecklenburg Vorpommern they have been very reformist and too willing to compromise with the SPD but probably not to same extent as the Green Party have done. They also however seem to be the only party campaigning against the right-wing Hartz IV reforms which are an attack on the German welfare state and the most diasdvantaged people within society.

Well, I'd vote PDS or Greens.

Although the PDS has still to really come clean with its SED-past.

But I'm a fucking pinko commie lesbian, so what do I know? :P

Normally I'd say PDS of course, but you need to prevent a black-yellow menace there! So either SPD or the the Greens.

Are these 4 choices all basically left-wing? or is any of them right-wing too?
Bloodthirsty squirrels
20-05-2005, 17:01
All left-wingers. Although some people consider SPD now a centrist party. But I think that only applies to the "universal" SPD. In the northern and east states the party is still left-wing.

In other news, I find it vaguely amusing that Rejis' is going to 'sell out' the right/ call to vote to a mostly uninformed public audience instead of trying to use his own brain, thus effectively turning the whole election thing into a joke :P

It's basically like pointing at democracy and telling it that it can fuck off!

... Ok, a slight exaggeration, but still.

I recommend "Wisdom of crowds"...
It points out, how some times a large enough group can make a better choice then a single expert. So there have to be some preconditions to be met. :p

True, but if everyone thinks the new parties have no chance, nothing gets changed!

Well, but thats as it is.
As here a party can only get into parliament if theyve got more than 5% of all votes, there practically is no chance for new parties. (Well, in a "the winner takes it all"-system its even worse, so in Germany it is better than in UK, USA and France.)
But I think the main reason nothing changes is our constitution
due to which too many decisions require a majority in two house (Bundesrat and Bundestag). Thus causing dead locks. And the Bundesrat even isnt democratically elected.

PDS! PDS! PDS! :)

Sure, they may be chanceless in your land, but they are the largest socialist party in Germany, and you would be making a statement of protest against Schroeder's social cuts and Agenda 2010 liberalisation program by voting for the PDS.

I don't know enough about Grüne to comment, but, whatever you do, don't vote for the traitorous bastards of the SPD! Like Labour in Britain, they've drifted to the right, and need a good kick in the ass to push them back to the left.
