Bring Your Own Lightsaber.

So, how many people showed up to your viewing of Star Wars: ROTS toting a toy lightsaber? More than one? Was there a duel?

Did you bring yours? Or is that simply too geeky for you?

If you haven't gone yet, are you planning on bringing your lightsaber?

I'm going tomorrow. To an early matinee. So there will probably not be as many people(including the lightsaber-wielding ultrageek variety) present.

I'll have my lightsaber in the car just in case. :D

i didn't have a lightsaber myself, but i did get to see a lovely duel between a full costumed, saber wielding darth vadar with a dressed up but difficult to distinguish jedi knight before the movie!

Egad! No self-respecting geek should be without one!

You can get a halfway decent toy one for $15-20

However...

For the true geeks in us:

Might I suggest Force FX lightsabers (http://masterreplicas.com/customer/starwars/starwars_product_list.php?cid=9)

or

Plasma and EL lightsabers and kits to build your own! (http://www.high-techmagic.com/cgi-bin/ez-catalog/cat_display.cgi?0X348591)

My Mace Windu Force FX lightsaber is ordered. I'll get it this summer. Until then, I'm making do with a plastic one.

I saw the last installment in the series today. It was very well done, IMHO, but I suspect I'm just a little old for a lightsaber, yes? :D

Although not as high tech, i made my own.

The hilt was made with a hollow machined dark metal tube, with various washers etc attached to it to make it look very very nice. But to make it so i could really smack stuff with it, i had a piece of hickory a little thinner than the hilt, so painted it light blue and attached it with a 9 inch screw in the handle. Was pretty strong. Granted didn't look as good as a pro made one but it could take far more abuse.

I'm tempted, but I suspect that there won't be many people there dressed as jedis or anything. I have a mental picture of loads of people in casual suits standing outside the cinema, staring at me waving a tinfoil bokken around...

There's probably people out there who would cream themselves at the very thought, considering how excited people got about the double-edged one.

Actually, tinsel might be a better choice. There's always the chance that it'll get mistaken for a real sword if I wrap it in tinfoil.

I'm still not sure if I want to look like an obsessive Star Wars fan, though...

Well considering its might be slightly illegal too, esp as your in England, as it is classed as a weapon i think. I mean I can't take my Bokken in a public place as it voids my Kendo insurence if i do.

Ah...I don't really want to go around checking stuff like that three hours before I go to the movie.

Hmm...maybe I'll just attempt to re-enact some of the lightsaber battles in the privacy of my own home when I get back from the movie, then (I'm joking, by the way).

I went with five other people and we brought three plastic lightsabers... sat outside the movie theater for half an hour beating the hell out of each other with them. One had a homemade hilt but still had the plastic blade... took a hollow steel tube and put little RC tires around it for a grip. The GhettoSaber.

I was there on opening night at my local cinema - had to queue outside to actually get inside, never had to do that before!

We had stormtroopers and clone warriors fighting battles whilst we waited, Darth Vader turned up, and we had the occasional Jedi Knight using the force to ensure we all got enough popcorn and soda.

So many people had lightsabers - I wish I'd taken mine, but I left it at home so as not to appear like a 'geek' - lol, I'd have fitted in better if I'd taken it with me! Best film ever!

Taking my Force FX lightsaber to the cinema tomorrow night, a group of us are going to see it again - we all have lightsabers (yes, we have nothing better to do) - and we're going to have a contest. Two of us have Red sabers, so they're going to 'be' the Sith, and the rest have the blue - it should be fun. Got cloaks ready ;-)
