That explains it then. I am not involved in atheletics, but I try. I drink far too many sodas.

Absolutely not. I'm with W. C. Fields: "Who wants to drink something fishes F*ck in?".

Damn right. After about thirty minutes of power-riding my bike (highest gears while standing up, rather than sitting), I can drink about half a gallon of water.

As with everything else in my life, I'm completely random. I drink a lot of water, gatorade, soda, and beer and rum. :) The last thing I'd ever do is stick to a pattern.

But I average half a gallon to a gallon of water a day. SOmetimes more, sometimes less.

Caffeine is a diuretic. It makes your kidneys extract more water from your blood. Ain't science grand? :D

I never drink water on it's own; I find the taste of water to be among the most unbearably horrible things i have ever experienced. It's bitter, and the purer it is the more bitter it is, until it just tastes and smells like some kinda gasoline. YEUCH. I do drink a lot of fruit juice tho...

Yep. 4 water bottles a day = 8 servings. My mom buys the bulk kind at Costco, so everytime I need one, I just pull one out the fridge.

Definite pros at doing this too...my face clears up, I lose weight, have more energy, reduce stress, sleep better... :D

Between 3/4 and 1 gallon of water a day. A quart when I wake up, a quart and a half (at least, sometimes more) at work and a quart when I get home. Also, when I do strenuous phsycial exersize that increases...

EDIT: Wow, I just read some more of this thread. I'm pretty sure that without proper solute concentration, 2 gallons of water a day is too much. People who die because of Ecstacy die because they drink pure water by the gallon and make their brains swell, so maybe you should cut back on the old water a little...

EDIT2: ...unless you have stuff mixed with it, but even then...2 gallons?

i'm not sure about where you come from but from wher i come from, caffeine isn't a standard ingredient of all sodas. for u to assume that soda instantly means the caffinated variety is rather shortsighted

how the hell does it? if your talking about salty water, sure but sodas don't dehydrate you. the sugar gets stored in your body away from the water

They certainly are harmful to your body, which is why I don't drink any.

Common in sodas:

caffeine
carbonated water
phosphoric acid
sugar
aspartame
acesulfame-k
sucralose

Calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus must be maintained in the proper balance for bone health. When too much phosphorus is in the blood, calcium is leached from the bones, causing osteoporosis. Even in citrus sodas which contain citric acid instead of phosphoric acid, calcium is needed to normalize blood pH. It has been said that the fastest growing group of people with osteoporosis in this country is teenagers....because of the huge number of sodas they consume.

As far as caffeine and sugar are concerned, they both cause dehydration, and the massive depletion of minerals. A study was done in which two groups of children aged 13-18 years of age were given one of two drinks, a caffeinated sugar-free drink, or a drink containing both caffeine and sugar. When caffeine was added, calcium excretion in the urine increased by 25%. When sugar was added, urinary calcium loss almost doubled (1). Both caffeine and sugar also cause dehydration.

Sugar in particular is destructive because its ingestion lowers immune function by reducing the ability of white blood cells to ingest and destroy bacteria. This lowered immune function can last for five hours or more after the ingestions of sugar (2).

Sucralose, also marketed as Splenda, breaks down into small amounts of 1,6 -dichlorofructose, a chemical similar to chlorinated pesticides. There has not been adequate testing of this product before it was released for public use, and many of the post-approval studies are alarming. To ready about it, go to Sucralose Toxicity Information Center .

Aspartame, or Nutra Sweet, has an alarming health record. Read my article about Aspartame . Even though this article is about how aspartame poisons the pregnant woman and her unborn child, you can see how it would do similar things in the bodies of others. Also, see the Aspartame (Nutra Sweet) Toxicity Info Center .

Acesulfame-k is a dangerous chemical. Read Sample Quotes from Cancer Experts' Letters on Acesulfame Testing.

The most famous carbonated water, because it's French and one of the older brands. I'm surpised you haven't heard of it. It can be flavored (Lime or Lemon), but those kinds are in the plastic bottles only.
