I just got back from seeing it as well.

Wow!

The entire film amazed me, building to the climax who's rising was established back in Ep. I

However, the beginning third, until (spoiler) Mace is killed by Palpatine seemed too umm...flat for me, there was too much humor, and that took away from the seriousness of the entire movie. Also, the beginning space battle i think could have been MUCH more dramatic, as it is, i think it is sub par to the episode IV battle.

What i like best about this movie is the way they pitted the clones against the Jedi, and anakin as well, the way they forced him to turn to evil was, i think, very well done. Anyway, that's just my initial opinions, and i'll prob change them with multiple screenings of the movie this weekend :)

I agree with Sernpidel, the first scene especially I thought was rotten. But the rest of the movie is certainly worth it.

Can't wait to see it ^^. I'm going to wait a few days though until the crowds at our local theater die down a bit. I live in a small town where a movie like this becomes the only real form of excitement for the masses, so best to let the high school kids filter through before attempting to enjoy the movie.

I'm expecting a rehash of Empire Strikes Back.

Jar Jar: No Anni, misa is your father.

Anikan: NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! *jumps in volcano*

I just saw it. I have mixed thoughts about it.

First the bad:

The acting was terrible. These were some of the worst performances by SAG members ever recorded. All of the actors cant be that bad, I know for a fact Samuel L. Jackson isnt, so it mustve been due to bad directing and terrible acting coaches.

The special effects were a mixed bag. Some were truly astounding while others left you wondering why they chose to use computers when traditional methods wouldve given much more realistic effects.

The aliens were terribly done. They were obviously computer generated and were not anywhere close to as good as the ones done in the original series. I suppose if you are young enough that you dont remember the time when they used costumes instead of computers you might think they look good, but a brief comparison to the aliens in this same series from the original trilogy reveals that the new ones are fake looking.

Both of the supposedly powerful villians (Count Dooku and General Grievous) are dispatched far too easily. General Grievous is entirely computer generated and therefore looks as you would expect something done on a computer to look (totally fake).

The story is unrealistic even for being a fantasy setting. I wont go into the details here because some people reading this may want to see the movie.

Wookies! I went to see this movie so I could see the wookies kick ass. But what do you know? wookies appear for what probably amounts to a total of 2 minutes and you are only shown brief glimpses of them fighting. Those brief glimpses are mostly composed of them jumping on top of vehicles or shooting gatling guns. I wanted to see wookies tear people apart, but nothing like that happened.

I feel that then naming of Luke and Leia was kind of....well....quick. They lead us to believe that Padme had the names picked out beforehand by how quickly after they are born she knows what their name is to be, but we dont know where she came up with the names from.

I wouldve liked to see how the other Jedi masters fight before they are slaughtered.

The Good:

Actually quite entertaining. Possibly the most entertaining episode of the entire series. Once you get past the terrible acting, its not that bad a movie all in all.

We find out a little bit more about the origins of Anakin than just the ridiculous "the midichlorines themselves created him" theory.

The score, as usual for any George Lucas movie, really enhanced the picture and made a lot of the scenes actually have some emotion to them.

The cinematography was great despite the terrible acting. While the lines the characters were reciting sounded unconvincing and were amateurishly written, the way the scenes were shot put across some of the emotions that the director meant to put across. Had the acting been good and the dialogue a little better, many of the scenes in this movie couldve been very powerful. In fact, a few scenes that require no dialogue and little acting do manage to be powerful.

Jar Jar Binks! We see him walk across the screen a few times. But he is nothing more than an extra in this movie. He doesnt get to say a word and performs no actions of any consequence. He is relegated to what he shouldve been all along, just another alien in the background.

My final report:

3 stars (out of 5)

If only the acting wouldve been good and the dialogue a little better written, this couldve gone from a decent movie to a great movie. Its easy to overlook the unrealistic special effects and other shortcomings, but I cant bring myself to give a movie with such terrible acting and infantile dialogue more than 3 stars.

All I have to say is: The geeks are quick!

I've already found and downloaded a bootleg copy. I will see it on the big screen, of course, but I know I can always rely on some geek somewhere to find a way to get a copy. Probably some studio monkey.

It means I'm one of the first people in the States to see it. :D

this needs to be back on the 1st page, especially now that im alert enough to be on the computer after getting home at 3:45 some.....6 hours after i ususally go to bed.

all i can say is that this movie really DID redeem the whole series. when you wake up thinking about how this one meshes in the the (real) first one, its done its job. when i saw the 4th, all i thought about what how awful jar-jar binks was, on the 5th it was "ohmygod that romance gives me the creeps"

in this one its, "no wonder darth vader was so grumpy" and "ohhhh yeah that works with the first one, oh im glad he did that.

ZOMG SPOILERS AHEAD

All I can say is wow. This movie totally redeemed the series, it just seemed like everything that seemed ridiculous in the first two now finally makes since with episode three. The only complaint I jave is the first scene. Wow, even though I give this a 5/5 I dont think I need to remind the good people that made this movie to leave out the unfunny crap. Especially when Anakin kills little kids later.

But something about the movie left me very intrigued(sp?). In the first movie they said that Anakin was a virgin birth (no father). And in Ep. 3 we find out that Palpatine's (or Siodious's) old master had learned the secrets to creating life. Now heres what I think. Palpatine created Anakin to destroy the Jedi order from the beginning. Now you might say this is a little far fetched but considering the fact that Palpatine alluded to the truth about Anakins father and was manipulating both the Republic and the Seperatists this seems like one of the most brilliant plots ever concieved. Especially considering this makes the Emporers Clones in the Dark Empire novels seem much more plausible. Anyone care to elaborate?

Especially considering this makes the Emporers Clones in the Dark Empire novels seem much more plausible. Anyone care to elaborate? There was an idea left out of the movie that Palpatine would reveal he was Anakin's father in some freakish weird Force way (because, let's face it, do you really think Shmi would have sex with him?). They didn't bother with it though, probably because it would be ridiculous (just imagine Palpatine saying "Qui-Gon never told you what happened to your father...").
