Favorite movie? Not just one, the entire Naked Gun trilogy.

Favorite type of movie? Hmm, that's tough. I guess it would have to be Comedy, followed by fact-based Drama (could also be loosely affiliated with the term Documentary).

The Big Lebowski

Some of my favorite quotes, randomized:

"What's a 'pederast', Walter?"

"Eight year-olds, dude."

"No, you're not wrong, Walter. You're not wrong, you're just an asshole."

"Nihilists? Jesus. Say what you will about the National Socialists, at least that was an ethos."

"Have it your way, Dude."

"I suggest you do what your parents did: Get a job, sir! I've got news for you, your war is over! Guess what-- The bums lost! The bums will always lose!"

Not sure I got the last one right. There are too many great quotable lines in that movie.

perhaps. In my opinion, these films just aren't worthy of the title, but it's certainly evident that there used to be a lot of people who had a differing opinion about that. Probably because these films don't have a timeless element to them, or at least, as strong a ones as some of the old classics. If you're living in the United States, most movie theaters aren't showing any foreign films - they are regarded as money losers.

You have to rent DVDs or be in a major urban area with a theater that shows foreign films, or if you're lucky, some cable channel will show a foreign film.

If you don't have any initial interest in a foreign film, you won't EVER see one.

I would imagine that Dutch film doesn't do well in India, either. They only want films with happy endings, and several happy songs.

Why doesn't any one appreaciate the Dutch film-culture ??

Movies likes Turks Fruit, Naar de Klote and Van God Los are jewels for the eye. Picturing the cruelty and raw nature of mankind and this world. Dude, I love many Dutch films. Hell, I'm half-dutch myself. But none of them merited top ten position. However, I will say that "Spoorloos" (remade into the terrible "Vanishing") and "Soldat Van Orange" are my favourites from Nederland.

You could ask the same question with many many other countries. WL already gave few reasons.
No one has mentioned any Spanish or Italian movies even though many classics are from those countries.

Recently I have been watching Anchorman, Outlaw Josey Wales, and Hero repeatedly.

Favorite movie ever: The Big Lebowski

The Outlaw Josey Wales is great.
