Have You Ever Been Mistaken for the Opposite Sex Online?

I am constantly mistaken for a man online. I think it probably happens to everyone. Let's go to the poll!

All the time. I've been called sir more times than I have counted. I've also been tagged specifically of being a white male. Of course, in another thread, I was tagged as a black female.

Interestingly enough, neither of these are correct.

On another note: I was called a liberal leftist nutjob in the same week as being called a right-wing Bush-loving poopiehead. I have also been accused of trying to push my militant atheist views in the same week as being called a schizophrenic for believing in God. LOL

and what about the ' Yes, I am male and have been mistaken for Myrth.' option and the ' Yes, I am Myrth and have been mistaken for female.' option or of course the ever important ' Yes, I am Myrth and have been mistaken for male.' option, you just havn't thought this poll through Zotona dear

I didn't want to add more than one Myrth option. I wouldn't have provided any if that other poll didn't declare that ALL polls must have a Myrth option. Sorry, Myrth.

I have an "a" at the end of my country's name to indicate that I am feminine, and I do use (dark) red in my siggy. I don't like pink. Blue is my favorite color. I could state I was female 100 times in this forum and it wouldn't make any difference-someone would still mistake me as male.

Yeah, I mistook you for male. Maybe the final "a" is counteracted by the other letters (or maybe people just assume male by default - women seem less offended by being mistaken for males compared to men mistaken for females).

I agree, skimpy slutty outfits just don't make sense in action/fighting games. However I'm all for them in all other genres of games... SimCity with boobs anyone? Like that wouldn't be a bestseller? Gimme some programmers and I could make billions with that. First we'd have to demolish the pro-censorshipites, but that can easily be taken care of with some TNT and my ultra-tight black leotards.

Yeah, a little. I think its a bit of an overreaction - attractive people are used to market things, that's just how it works. As long as the female characters aren't useless damsels in distress, I don't really think its a problem.

The 'A' and 'O' thing is a throwback to Latin languages, rather than a sterotype. In Italian today (and I assume Spanish and some others), even inanimate objects have a gender, denoted by the last letter. It's crept into English through our names (e.g. Anna, Mario) so it's almost subconscious now...

With a name like 'Minalkra' (oft times shortened to 'Mina') and my preference for female avatars, both game (I'd rather watch a girl's polygon booty bound across a landscape then some dude's polygon booty) and forum (hey, who says Avatars are supposed to represent YOU? Shut up!), I am nearly always thought to be an eloquent and slightly aggressive female.

I don't frankly care, however, seeing as how everything IS equal. It is neither a compliment nor an insult. It is what it is and nothing more. Now, please shoot me before I wax anymore Zen. He doesn't like being waxed.

How can sh*t like that happen to me? Just the very words I use reflect my masculinity.

Since the usually "default" gender assumption is male, no.

It is assumed I am female, when I am male.

I've been told "your color is showing" when defending minority rights. Depending on the issue, I must be African-American or Native American ...

Similarly, I must be a gay or lesbian.

Luckily, I consider all of these compliments. :D

(except for the "your color is showing" crap -- that was the product of inbreeding and oxygen deprivation)

Actually, hold back the tears. Stand up and strangle that bastard. Later, make some lampshades with his skin.

"Sino" must be a euphemism for Oscar Wilde.

But I am rather fond of pussies. Do they scare you?

A couple of weeks ago I thought you were female. I'm not sure exactly why I drew that conclusion. I think somewhere in my subconscious, it was just decided you were a lady. Not that it makes a difference in here one way or the other. I never assumed you to be gay or "minority", although its perfectly clear you have some personal experience that gives you insight as to their points of view. Something that the average hetero, "majority" might not be attuned to.

I'm not afraid of the obscene, however that does not mean that I find them amusing. What does China in Latin have anything to do with Oscar Wilde?

My hat's off to you, sir. You must be quite the writer. All my female characters are pretty peculiar and unrealistic.
Thanks, man. But the dirty little secret is if you let them win narratively then they're usually pretty happy. There is only so many ways they can play the 'object of desire' or 'spurned love,' so anything different is welcome to them.

It helps get your work done, too, because there are more actress' at a certain level than there are men but there are far fewer female parts, and even fewer good ones. Best directors so I've had so far have been women as well. Though, now that I think of it-all but one of my mentors have been women writers.

Really, I shouldn't post when I'm this damn tired because I start to ramble waaaayyyyy off the threads topic...
